Kendrick Perkins is a former NBA player turned analyst that makes controversial statements almost daily. The comments he makes are what help viewers be drawn to his segments. Hence, the more absurd the take, the better for ESPN. It’s what helps Skip Bayless and Stephen A Smiths of the world.
Kendrick Perkin has achieved more than some of the other analysts on the court but his career in the NBA will always be a meme. That’s why his takes on NBA players are sometimes or always disregarded. However, his take last night has grabbed the attention of all the NBA.
Kendrick Perkins says Giannis Antetokounmpo cannot be the face of the NBA
Giannis Antetokounmpo has been deemed as one of the most dominant players in the NBA right now. Antetokounmpo who’s been in the league for just 8 years made his way into the NBA 75th Anniversary team. He’s a 2 time NBA MVP, NBA Champion, Finals MVP, DPOY, All-NBA, and All-Star level player. He’s averaging 29.4 points per game this season with 12 rebounds and 6 assists per game. He leads the Bucks in blocks per game and is 2nd in steals per game.
There is no doubt in the level that Giannis plays on. However, Kendrick Perkins does not care about the stats and accolades. In fact, he picks his favorite on the eye test. Perkins put out a tweet of his candidates for the next face of the NBA after LeBron retires. But Giannis did not make that list.
His list included Ja Morant, Jayson Tatum, and Luka Doncic. A fan responded by asking where was Giannis and Perk replied by saying this.
I look at Giannis like Tim Duncan!!! He’s Great but not Marketable like those other guys.

Tim Duncan was never a flashy soul and the culture in San Antonio was one where you keep your head down and work. Therefore, even though he’s the best PF of all time, he never became the face of the NBA.
But Giannis Antetokounmpo is top 3 in jersey sales, will soon appear in a Disney movie, has a huge sneaker deal with Nike, and is the reigning NBA champion who made the Bucks relevant for the first time since Kareem.
This all stems from the misconception of Giannis being in a small market team. However, in the current age of social media, personalities like Giannis always have a spotlight to shine.
