Many wonder how the 22-year-old started her journey in basketball. Clark has been extremely dedicated to her craft ever since she was a kid. So much, so that she even competed with boys in AAU tournaments while he was very young. The best part is the unconditional support her family has given her over the years. Now, she stands as the greatest college basketball player ever.
Caitlin Clark was drawn to Basketball’s highly competitive nature
Caitlin Clark was born and brought up in Iowa her entire life. She attended Dowling Catholic School in West Des Moines, Iowa. Growing up, she played almost every kind of sport she could. During an interview with Good Morning American, she said, “Honestly, growing up I loved soccer too and I played every sport. I ran track, I did softball, you know, soccer. But I think basketball… I like the competitive side of it and I grew up playing with the boys.”
He added, “My dad was my first-ever basketball coach. Before every game, I would look at my dad and I’d give him a nod. He gives me a nod and I go out there and get ready for the tip.” The fact that Caitlin played under her father’s guidance would have fuelled her love for the sport even more. In high school, Clark once scored 60 points in a game, which was the second-highest scoring night in Iowa state.
Caitlin Clark predicted joining the WNBA in second grade
Towards the outro of the sit-down interview, host Robin Roberts revealed that Caitlin Clark predicted her future in basketball. When she was in second grade, one of her teachers handed over papers to each child in her classroom, asking them to write down their dreams. Clark apparently wrote that she would become a WNBA player. The Hawkeyes star’s mother still has the same paper as well.
