LeBron James is one of the highest-earning athletes of all time and fairly recently received the honor of being one. Last year, he became one of three sportspersons to become a billionaire. The King has been nothing short of excellent throughout his 20-year career, accumulating tremendous amounts of accolades along the way. As a result, brand endorsements and teams are still willing to pay him the big bucks for his work.
LeBron James’ current net worth stands at $1 billion and can potentially reach new heights in the coming years. The Los Angeles Lakers forward plans to add to his existing investments by buying an NBA team somewhere down the line. However, the 4x League MVP currently owns a 2% stake in Liverpool FC. Besides this, he also has investments in the Boston Red Sox, Fenway Sports Groups, and his own Tequila line called Lobos 1707.
Fans react as billionaire LeBron James refuses to pay Twitter verification fee
Despite having all the wealth in the world and a steady flow of income, LeBron James still does not want to pay his Twitter verification fee. Following his Twitter takeover, Elon Musk decided to increase his business by charging users a fee of $8 per month. Even though this comes from a complete business point of view, it may also disrupt the reliability of sources on the platform.
LeBron is not too much of a fan of this new policy. He took to Twitter saying, “Welp I guess my blue will be gone soon cause if you know me I ain’t paying the 5.” Several fans were criticizing James for being stingy despite his wealth. “Imagine being so cheap,” said one Twitter fan. There were a bunch of others who called him out as well.
Imagine being so cheap.

This is not the first time LeBron James has been called out for his unwillingness to pay. In the past, he has admitted to being very money cautious and greedy with his spending habits. In an interview with ESPN, Dwyane Wade called his then-teammate the “Cheapest guy in the NBA.” James replied to this by saying, “That is so so so so false-ly true… I’m not turning on data roaming, I’m not buying no apps. I still got Pandora with commercials.”
Whilst many would disapprove of his nature and call it absurd, LeBron James is just simply being very smart with his money. Growing up, he saw financial struggles and knew that he had to be responsible for money. This could be a major reason why he was able to reach his billionaire status.
