Jamirah Shutes was arguably Memphis’ best player at the NCAA tournament this year. She had been leading the team with ease and it certainly looked like the Memphis Women’s Basketball team had what it took to go all the way. That was until they came across Bowling Green. The Ohio-based university beat Memphis 60-73 recently.
Jamirah was the best player for Memphis. She put up 13 points and 4 rebounds on the board for her team that night. Apart from Shutes, Madison Griggs, and Hannah Reddick were also decent for Memphis. They made 12 points each against Bowling Green. The Falcons were victorious on the night, thanks to commendable performances from Elissa Brett and Alison Day.

Although Bowling Green’s win attracted plenty of attention, what happened after the game took it to a whole new level. Memphis’ Jamirah punched Elissa Brett while the players were walking along the handshake line.
Is Jamirah Shutes arrested?
Many believed that the young player would be arrested after the incident and fans were eager to get a look at her mugshot. It reached a point where fans await her apology for the punch as well. The main reason for all these developments would be Bowling Green’s statement after the game. The statement said, “The Bowling Green State University Police Department has charged a member of the Memphis Women’s Basketball with assault.”

The truth is that the police have not arrested Jamirah as of 27 March. Investigation is still ongoing and the reason for the incident would be analyzed before Shutes is detained if that happens. Moreover, the reason as to why Jamirah sucker-punched Elissa remains a mystery. Many believe it could have been due to the disappointing loss that the Memphis Tigers suffered.
The Memphis Tigers also released a statement on the incident. It mentioned that the university will not comment on the incident until the investigation comes to an end. Jamirah’s future hangs in the balance as her basketball career could be at stake if she is arrested in the future.
