With every day that passes in the NBA offseason, talks of a potential Joel Embiid trade to the New York Knicks seem to intensify. Many of us are aware that Embiid had a monster season this year and finally managed to win the 2023 NBA MVP award. However, he was unable to get his team past the second round yet again as they ended up falling short to the Boston Celtics.
Much like many other certified stars in the league, Embiid has a desire to win an NBA title and has indicated that he wants to do so. Even if that means winning with another team as opposed to the Philadelphia 76ers. This revelation has generated extensive trade rumors on a potential destination for Embiid.
Just mere hours after his wedding with Anne De Paula, an NBA Insider for the Philadelphia 76ers revealed that the New York Knicks are working from the shadows in an attempt to secure Embiid for their team. Although it is still uncertain if they will be able to bring him on, let us still take a closer look at this recent report and find out more.
The New York Knicks have accumulated draft picks with the hopes of acquiring Joel Embiid
Embiid has already expressed his intent and desire to win a championship. With each failure in the postseason with the 76ers, that looks less likely for him. At the same time, there is no guarantee that he will be able to win a title with a new team if he decides to leave the Philadelphia 76ers.
Nonetheless, the New York Knicks have appeared at the top of the list of suitors interested in Embiid if he decides to leave. The main reason for this is the fact that the Knicks’ President is a man named Leon Rose. To those who do not know, Rose used to be Embiid’s agent and is likely on good terms with him. This connection has brought forth a lot of theories that a trade to the Knicks is on the table. Keith Pompey, a 76ers’ Insider indicted the same.
“I would say the Knicks. Leon Rose used to be his agent. Joel already owns a house up in New York. He’s had it for a while. And the worst kept secret is that the Knicks have been compiling and keeping ahold of their first-round draft picks hoping and praying that Joel Embiid asks out. if you add Joel Embiid to that team, that team is going to be catapulted to one of the top teams in the East and I can see that absolutely happening.”

Although pairing up Embiid with Jalen Brunson would give the team a good shot at winning a title, it would be quite far-fetched for the Knicks to think they can get Embiid for a bunch of future draft picks. They would likely have to package a few players from the roster with the picks to entice the 76ers to part with Joel. We look forward to seeing if this trade comes to fruition.
