Michael Jordan, who is the consensus greatest basketball player of all time has fallen prey to various internet hoaxes over the years. The creators of such hoaxes get their five minutes of fame by using the names of such prominent figures in society. Jordan is someone who has influenced people from different walks of life. So a rumor about his death ought to blow up.
Back in July 2023, a post regarding the former Chicago Bulls player’s death went viral on Facebook. The page was called “R.I.P Michael Jordan” and it had one post on it that claimed he passed away. The caption read, “At about 11 a.m. ET on Sunday (July 16, 2023), our beloved basketball player Michael Jordan passed away. Michael Jordan was born on February 17, 1963, in New York. He will be missed but not forgotten. Please show your sympathy and condolences by commenting on and liking this page.”

Internet detectives, aka Jordan’s fans, were able to figure out that the post was fake. Similarly, a musical artist, popularly known as the greatest rapper of this generation, Eminem also fell prey to a death hoax recently. Someone who used Wikipedia allegedly edited the rapper’s page and added that he passed away on December 10, 2023. Later, Pop Based on X reported that he was alive and well.
Michael Jordan once openly stated his intentions to dunk on Eminem
Michael Jordan was a complete menace on the court. He earned his stripes by working harder than everybody else and shaping the NBA into what it is known for now. Jordan paved the way for many successful and dominant athletes today. But during his time, he stood alone above everybody else.
Similarly, Eminem is someone who kept the genre of rap alive. During an interview on Sway’s Universe, the rapper recalled a time when Jordan wanted to dunk on his head just for the sake of it.
He said, “I was on the phone with him, we were talking, and everything was cool. He’s super cool, and everything was good until we get to the end of the phone call and I said, ‘Yo man, when are you gonna come to Detroit so I can dunk on you?'”
Eminem claimed that he was just flabbergasted by what Jordan had just told him. “It was crickets. I don’t remember exactly what he said, but I think he just kinda of was like, ‘Ha ha ha.’ Like laughed. And I remember getting off the phone going, ‘Oh my God, I think I might have just blew it,'” he said.
Eminem initially approached Michael Jordan to discuss a potential shoe collaboration. However, both individuals went on their paths and proceeded to live an incredible lives. Jordan is currently an incredibly successful business worth billions. Eminem still creates and produces music as well.
