Kevin Durant surely has to be one of the unluckiest players when it comes to injuries. The 2x NBA champion has faced various setbacks throughout his NBA career. When he was at the Golden State Warriors, Durant suffered an Achilles tear during the 2019 NBA Finals, and many still believe to this day that his injury changed the outcome of the championship that year.
Durant has also suffered multiple MCL sprains in his career. The first one came when he was playing for the Brooklyn Nets. He tore an MCL on the left knee. This year, Durant suffered another MCL sprain but it was his right knee this time around. It proved to be a huge struggle for the player as even his debut for the Phoenix Suns was delayed after the blockbuster trade.
Once he made his debut for the Arizona-based franchise, it seemed like KD was on the Suns’ roster for a long time. He played free-flowing basketball along with Devin Booker and Chris Paul. However, that was only until tragedy struck again.
What injury did Kevin Durant suffer?
Before the game against the Oklahoma City Thunder, Durant participated in the warm-ups and was just shooting around. When he went for a simple layup, KD, unfortunately, slipped and rolled his left ankle. It certainly looked bad at the time, and Suns fans were worried that the injury might be serious.

And it was indeed heartbreak for the Suns franchise. They announced that Durant suffered a left ankle sprain and will be re-evaluated in three weeks. That announcement came on March 9, 2023.

It is said that the ankle sprain that Durant has suffered is ‘Grade 2.’ This certainly means that there are at least another three weeks before Durant sets foot on the court once again. Moreover, there is a chance that KD isn’t at 100% right away upon return. This means that the Suns franchise might play it safe and rest him for a couple of games even after he has completely recovered, just so that they don’t risk his injury.
Even without Durant, the Suns are expected to make it to the postseason. Suns fans will hope Durant can finally help them challenge for the title after multiple failed attempts in recent years.
