Kyrie Irving is one to never back down from an opportunity to share his opinion. He has followed that for a while now, even though it has landed the Brooklyn Nets star in trouble a few times. Moreover, when it comes to supporting fellow athletes, Kyrie makes it a point to let his true feeling be known.
Brittney Griner has been the talk of the town since yesterday after Russia agreed to release her. The USA managed to arrive at an agreement for this, in exchange for Viktor Bout’s release. This hasn’t gone down well among people, while some raised awareness toward former US marine Paul Whelan.
Others believe that Griner is “anti-American” as well, mainly because of the comments about the country’s national anthem that have now come back to haunt her. Amid all this, Kyrie has applauded the WNBA star and the grit she displayed when imprisoned.
What did Kyrie Irving say after Brittney Griner’s release?
Kyrie tweeted, “Welcome Home BG! Thank you for exemplifying what a true Warrior spirit looks like. You’re forever loved by so many unconditionally.” When Griner was in prison in Russia, there were surprisingly many to claim that the USA should not make any effort toward her release.
Welcome Home BG!
Thank you for exemplifying what a true Warrior spirit looks like. You’re forever loved by so many unconditionally. 🤞🏾♾

People believed that the fact that she broke a law in a foreign country should be an indication that she doesn’t deserve America’s efforts. However, President Joe Biden-led government decided to go ahead with the prisoner swap by sending Viktor Bout the other way.
Speaking of Joe Biden, it looks like Kyrie has a request for the 46th president of the United States as well. After welcoming Griner back to the country, Irving replied to a fan tweet. The tweet mentioned, “Now free all of our brothers and sisters that are not celebrity athletes.”

Kyrie replied to this with a crossed-finger symbol, together with the infinity icon. It seems he agrees with the fact that people who are detained in other countries should also be freed. They might not have the publicity that Brittney had. This means their cases are less likely to be known across the whole country. Irving believes that the USA should work toward changing this as well.
