- NBA Insider Shams Charania revealed that Embiid is dealing with a torn meniscus
Things do not appear to be going too well for Joel Embiid and the Philadelphia 76ers. As the majority of NBA fans should be aware, Embiid is the team’s franchise superstar and is also the reigning NBA MVP. Although he was on the verge of making a case for himself as a 2x MVP this season, an unexpected injury might have reduced his chances of winning the award.
Members of the basketball community who were able to watch the 76ers’ game against Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors might be aware of what happened. GSW’s Jonathan Kuminga ended up landing on Joel Embiid’s knee in an attempt to dive for a loose ball.
Given Embiid’s size and injury history, this incident led several fans and NBA analysts to ponder over his medical situation and potential return to the court. NBA Insider Shams Charania recently shed some light on this matter.Shams Charania revealed that a treatment plan for Joel Embiid will be finalized this weekend
Shams is now a well-known NBA Insider. As the name would suggest, Charania is usually one of the first to break inside news regarding players’ health or league activities. Although it has only been a few days since Embiid injured his knee in the game against the Warriors, Shams broke the story that Embiid is dealing with a torn meniscus on his left knee and could potentially miss an extended period of time.

Upon hearing this report some fans opined that Embiid could even miss a few months or even require surgery if his injury warrants that course of action. This has also been quite concerning for 76ers fans, who were under the impression that Embiid was on the verge of winning the MVP award for the second time in a row.
Since reports being pushed forth on social media need not be accurate all the time, Shams later sent out a tweet on X which has fans puzzled.
Reports surrounding the torn meniscus are yet to be confirmed
In a tweet sent after the news had already been made public, Shams Charania revealed that the torn meniscus has not been officially confirmed by the Philadelphia 76ers management. He also added that Embiid would not be playing this weekend as a treatment plan began to materialize.

This secondary report gives 76ers fans some hope that Embiid will be able to make a speedy return to the court and help the Philadelphia 76ers make a deep postseason push. After all, if he is not dealing with a torn meniscus and will not require surgery, a return to the court could be less than a month away.
In any case, the basketball community is eagerly awaiting news from the 76ers regarding Embiid’s recovery timetable and return to the court.
