LeBron James has been enjoying a great season so far with the Los Angeles Lakers. He recently broke 6x NBA champ Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s scoring record and even made it his own on the same night. King James is now the NBA’s All-Time scoring leader and he still is not showing any signs of slowing even at 38 years old.
During the 2022-23 NBA season, James has been averaging 30.2 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 7.0 assists. An interesting point to note is that he has stepped up and come in clutch for the Lakers on multiple occasions this year. When Anthony Davis suffered a foot injury that kept him on the sidelines for a while, LeBron took sole control of the ship and led them to a few good wins. Speaking of injuries, King James has a huge hurdle in front of him right now. According to various sources, James is going through an ankle injury that might be more serious than fans believed.
What injury did LeBron James suffer?
LeBron James has been facing left ankle soreness for a while now. This has caused him to be listed on the Lakers’ injury reports on many occasions during the season. However, it is a different ankle injury that seems to be the problem. Many claim that he suffered this injury when playing against the Oklahoma City Thunder when he broke the historic record.
Recently, NBA insider Chris Haynes disclosed how James has been coping with the injury. On the #thisleague UNCUT podcast with Marc Stein, he said, “It’s something that’s been nagging him for a few weeks already, but it gets to points where it just gets unbearable and he plays through it. And people that talked to me said he was really struggling with that foot.”
“The way it’s explained to me is that sometimes it flares up, different sides of his foot, depending on the cut, the way that he plants certain times … that might be something that lingers all season long, but it reached a dire point,” Haynes added.
This certainly would not be the news that fans have been waiting to hear. King James is undoubtedly the Lakers’ most important player and his absence will be a huge blow for the Lakers. They acquired D’Angelo Russell, Malik Beasley, and Rui Hachimura before the trade deadline recently and are looking to improve on their record right now. James’ injury could not have come at a worse time as the Lakers get ready to gain some momentum. Only time will tell how James copes with his injury and if he is able to make a speedy return to the court.
