Tyre Nichols passed away at the age of 29 due to police brutality. The news of his passing away has sent a shockwave to the entire nation. Widespread protests are being carried out against the 5 police officers that were involved in the brutality.
Racism in the country is yet an issue as the laws are redundant with the police interaction with common folks. The five police officers assaulting Tyre are also black. They are being charged with second-degree murder charges, aggravated assault, aggravated kidnapping, official misconduct, and official oppression. The Memphis Grizzlies played against the Minnesota Timberwolves shortly after the news broke out.

NBA teams mourned the loss of Tyre. Coach Taylor Jenkins of the Grizzlies spoke on the loss of Tyre and was unable to control his emotions. “I Cried”, said Jenkins about Well’s interview. Chris Paul posted on his official Twitter account sharing his grief with the Nichols’ family.

“The senseless loss of life for Tyre Nichols has really hit us hard,” said Jenkins in the pregame interview with Bally Sports, who are the broadcast partner of the Grizzlies.“It’s been tough being on the road, not being home. I wish I could extend my arms through this camera right now to the family. They’re going through a lot.” continued Taylor Jenkins.

“There’s way harder things going on in the city versus what’s going on with our basketball right now,” Jenkins said after playing the Timberwolves. “I’m proud of our guys going out there. We’re playing with heavy hearts, but we’re also playing for our city that’s going through a lot right now.” Before the game started, a moment of silence was held during the game.
Who was Tyre Nichols?
Tyre Nichols was the youngest child in the family and had 3 other siblings. He was his mother’s favorite and loved her dearly, he even got her name tattooed on his arm. He lived with his mother and his step-father when growing up who he considered his dad. Nichols was suffering from Crohn’s disease according to his family and weighed 150 pounds with a height of 6’3″.
Tyre worked at FedEx for around 9 months. “We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of our team member,” said the organization on his untimely death. Many are protesting the death of Tyre at the skateboarding memorial.
He took photos whenever possible. He moved to Memphis after living in Sacramento, California. The Golden State brought out his love for skateboarding and some of his friends wore “Skate in Peace” t-shirts at his memorial service. Tyre Nichols has a 4-year-old son, “Everything he was trying to do was to better himself as a father for his 4-year-old son.” said attorney Benjamin Crump.
We send our heartfelt condolences to the Nichols’ family members and all those who had close ties with him. No one should be going away this soon, and we hope the best for his family during this hard time.
