Caitlin Clark has taken over the headlines with her record-breaking season. Everyone has been chanting her name and she has been the center of attention, receiving praise and appreciation. However, former football tight end and ESPN analyst Shannon Sharpe did not hold back from highlighting her biggest weakness during a discussion about her rivalry with Paige Bueckers.
Recently, Clark and Iowa Hawkeyes claimed victory over West Virginia by 64-54. During the game, the future WNBA player dropped 32 points, breaking the single-season scoring record. Despite this, Sharpe believes that Bueckers had a better recent game and emphasized that Clark had a better season this season. After this statement, he stated that the Hawkeyes’ star is not terrible efficient.
“Sometimes you look at the stats and she’s 12-for-30 and we just look at the 35 points or the 40 points when it took 35 shots to get there,” Sharpe explained as he also highlighted her biggest weakness. It can’t be denied that he made a valid point and drew everyone’s attention to something likely being overlooked. Nevertheless, this doesn’t change the fact that Clark is a generational athlete who has delivered historic performances.
Shannon Sharpe believes Caitlin Clark was the better player than Paige Bueckers this year
In ESPN’s ‘First Take’, Shannon Sharpe shared that he believes that Caitlin Clark was the better player this year than Paige Bueckers – something that numerous people would agree to. This season, it was almost like Clark uncovered a beast that she was hiding and is on a quest to break age-old records like that of NBA star Stephen Curry.
“Neither team is going to advance had their superstar not stepped up and had superstar numbers.”

After emphasizing again that while Clark had a better season, Bueckers had a better recent game, Sharpe said, “Neither team is going to advance had their superstar not stepped up and had superstar numbers.” Later on, he admitted that he doesn’t care enough about athletics, doesn’t know about stats, and rather see better than what he hears. “I’ve seen from the last two years from Caitlin Clark,” Sharpe added.
Will Paige Bueckers declare for the WNBA Draft?
Fans must be wondering that now that the current college season is coming to an end, what are Paige Bueckers’ plans for the future? Turns out, unlike Caitlin Clark, the UConn Huskies’ star has decided to use her last year of eligibility and return for another college year. This means that we will be able to witness her brilliant performances and hopefully no more injuries for her.
If she had declared for the WNBA draft, it would have been interesting to see if Clark and Bueckers end on the same team or as rivals that they have been all these years. Nevertheless, it is expected that she will join the league in 2025 and we will see what interesting layer gets added to her relationship with Clark. One thing is certain she is highly likely projected to be a top-three pick just like she was for the 2024 season.
