LA Clippers were arguably the biggest bust in the playoffs this year after getting knocked out by a young team like the Denver Nuggets. Although they were given the best odds to win the championship this season, poor team chemistry came in their way. However, Shaquille O’Neal seems to think Paul George is the sole reason behind LA Clippers’ embarrassing playoff stint.
On the ‘Big Podcast with Shaq’, Shaquille O’Neal was asked about LA Clippers’ next big move to bounce back from the embarrassment that was the 2020 playoffs. Initially Shaq was cryptic about who he thinks must be traded however when the co-host named the player he affirmed and suggested big off season moves.
“You gotta use [George] to get 2 good solid players because I need Kawhi to be the man. See Kawhi, I don’t want Kawhi to delegate. See, when Kawhi was with Toronto he knew he was the man, everybody knew he was the man. Now you got one guy that thinks he’s the man, one guy that is the man.”
However, is any team willing to give up two “solid players’ for Paul George?
What can the LA Clippers expect in return for Paul George
Despite the shocking knock out last season, LA Clippers are given second best odds just behind LeBron James LA Lakers to win 2020-21 NBA championship. Reports about beef between prominent role players and Paul George are emerging and this locker room rift can hamper their chances next season. Bench players excepted some form of accountability on behalf of Paul George however, he refused to take responsibility for anything.
LA Clippers gave up a fortune to acquire Paul George and it appears they wish to give the duo of Kawhi and PG another chance. At this point even if they choose to get rid of Paul George, no team is willing to offer anything solid in return given his disastrous performance in the playoffs. Having given up first round picks for the next 5 years, Clippers cant expect anything out of the draft either.
According to Paul George they didn’t go into the season thinking big or bust hence they’de like to give themselves another chance. In addition, Clippers lask other plausible options therefore they must build team chemistry by retaining PG and resign Montrezl Harrell who is reportedly testing the market.
