Damian Lillard is up there with the best point guards in the NBA currently. The Portland Trail Blazers’ player is a 6-time All-Star player and a 6-time All-NBA selection. He has also won the Rookie of the Year award in 2012-13, a season in which he led the NBA in minutes played.
Lillard has led the Portland Trail Blazers to the playoffs in every season since his sophomore year. Leading from the front, he has averaged 25.7 points and 6.2 assists in 61 playoff games.
But what he is most known for is his stunning shooting range. Dame has comfortably made shots from halfway down the court a part of his game and is aptly nicknamed Logo Lillard.
But undoubtedly, the highlight of Dame’s career is his epic 3-pointer buzzer-beater against Oklahoma City Thunder. Tied at 115 each with 15 seconds to go, Lillard proceeded to the logo and set himself up with slow dribbles before shooting at the 2-second mark and draining a magnificent 3 pointer that ended Oklahoma’s season.
Damian Lillard showers praise on Stephen Curry
While Lillard is considered one of the most lethal shooters in the NBA, one player is considered even greater, perhaps the greatest. And Dame agrees. Speaking on The Draymond Green Show, Lillard mentioned his agreement to the notion of Stephen Curry being the best point guard in the NBA.
“At my position…if you say who’s the best at this, who’s first like this, Steph is the 1 person I can accept coming behind.”
He went on to express his adulation for his US teammate, “Steph is a two-time MVP, a three-time champion. I respect Steph.”
Dame then drew further comparisons between him and Steph Curry, “Steph came from a mid-major. Steph went through injuries. Steph’s teams struggled. I take nothing away from Steph. I respect it 1000 percent.”
The 2 superstars are having starkly different seasons. Damian Lillard has only played 29 games this season in a Blazers side that is intent on heightening his challenges. They have traded away their secondary point scorer, CJ McCollum, and want to rebuild yet again.
Stephen Curry, on the other hand, is enjoying a stellar season with the Warriors. The freshly-crowned All-Star MVP is in contention for the NBA MVP and the championship this season.
An interesting season and perhaps an even more interesting off-season lies ahead for both stars respectively.
