As the Golden State Warriors and Boston Celtics face off for the NBA Finals, Stephen Curry is making history while keeping his team in the series. His otherwordly performance in game 4 has given the best shooter in the world an achievement that puts him in the same company as LeBron James and Michael Jordan.

LeBron and Mike have both dominated the NBA for stretched of their careers as the undisputed best player in the league and the world by extension. The two of them have managed several trips to the NBA Finals throughout the length of their career. Stephen Curry is no different. His earning this achievement is a testament to not only how far he has gone, but to how long he has been growing.

Stephen Curry, LeBron James, and Michael Jordan dominated till the end

An NBA player has a very short “shelf life“. This is a common saying that refers to the conception that an athlete has a limited time to be great and dominate. Many of the greatest players in NBA history have to lose the never-ending battle with time. This is the truth for 99% of the players. However, there are a few extraordinary, transcendental talents that are able to push their prime past its limits and win in the league towards the back end of their careers.

Steph has joined LeBron and Jordan as one of the oldest players in NBA finals history who scored more than 40 points. The scale of greatness behind this achievement cannot be recognized fully. One must remember that Curry is around 5-6 inches and almost 100 lbs lower than the other two players on this list.

This means that the former unanimous MVP has been able to score as dominantly as the two greatest players of all time, towards the back end of their careers. He has nowhere near the freakish athleticism that MJ and Bron possessed at any point in their careers. This increases the value of this accomplishment and his presence in that company greatly.

We are witnessing greatness on display in the NBA Finals. As the series moves towards the climactic games 5 and 6, there will be even more pressure on Steph to put up similar numbers. Therefore, it is sad but true to say that people will not care about this achievement unless he brings the NBA championship home for the Golden State Warriors.
