Brittney Griner returning to the WNBA might not be easy. As we all remember, Griner was arrested for carrying Marijuana vape cartridges through a Russian airport. This is a serious crime in the nation and she was sentenced to 9 years imprisonment.
She didn’t have to undergo her complete sentencing thanks to the US administration. The WNBA star was released via a prisoner swap and soon returned home within less than a year of being imprisoned. She also revealed that she fully planned to continue her career in the WNBA. However, breaking news has indicated that this will be quite tricky.
Brittney Griner will have to fly separately from her teammates to Phoneix Mercury’s WNBA games
It looks like Griner is facing further consequences for her actions. While a lot of attention was given to her imprisonment, trial and release, not many focused on her arrest and crime. One can’t argue that Marijuana is all that dangerous. Be that as it may, carrying it through the airport when going to play professionally overseas, should not be taken very lightly.
At the very least it speaks to security concerns and Brittney’s apparent lack of concern for them. According to senior ESPN writer Ramona Shelburne, “Brittney Griner plans to play in the next WNBA season but may need to fly privately, separately from her teammates due to security concerns.”

It might seem cold to assume that Griner hasn’t changed. However, we shouldn’t be surprised that she is facing consequences from unknown sources considering her anti-national views in the past. She is certainly grateful to have been released after making a stupid mistake.
However, making that mistake and the publicity that followed has also earned her a fair share of critics. When fans found out about this, they mused that she wanted to take more drugs on flights. Moreover, some even claimed that she wanted to smoke when flying to games.
What security concerns?? The fact that she brings drugs on flights??

Unfortunately, Brittney has earned herself a reputation as an addict or someone who isn’t in control of her own actions. After all, she claimed to have not known that the vape cartridges were in her bag when arrested in Russia. It is unclear what Griner plans to do. She might just have to fly separately from her team until trust is rebuilt in some form.
