Tyler Herro, the 23-year-old Miami Heat guard, has made it clear that he’s aiming high for the 2023-24 NBA season. After being the subject of trade rumors linking him to NBA All-Star Damian Lillard, Herro’s objective for the upcoming season is to become an untouchable player on Miami’s roster.
Herro won the NBA Sixth Man of the Year title after an impressive 2021–22 season, last season he averaged 20.1 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 4.2 assists. Unfortunately, an injury in the 2023 playoffs against the Milwaukee Bucks hindered his contribution during the Heat’s journey to the Eastern Conference Finals. Now that he has fully recovered, he is determined to prove his worth and ensure his future with the Heat.
“If you look around the league, I’m right there with every young guy that they say is the next thing or whatever it is… I know my value, I know I’m one of them ones and I don’t need to say it. I’ll show you.”

“Honestly, my goal this year is to get my name untouchable,” Herro said in a recent interview with the Miami Herald. “That’s my goal. At the end of this season, they won’t want to trade me. That’s my goal”
His optimism is a result not just of the Lillard saga but also of previous trade rumors. Before the start of the 2022-23 season, Herro’s name came up in potential trades involving superstars Donovan Mitchell and Kevin Durant. Despite these speculations, the University of Kentucky product has shown that he holds significant value in the NBA, and the Heat would be well to recognize it.
Tyler Herro was told the Damian Lillard trade will not happen
In an unexpected move that surprised many in the NBA community, Damian Lillard was traded to the Milwaukee Bucks instead of the anticipated move to Miami. However, Tyler Herro reveals that he was aware that a contract with Lillard wasn’t on the table.
Herro shared that the Miami Heat organization had communicated with him throughout the offseason, ensuring him that the Lillard trade was not going to take place. “The team told me it wasn’t going to happen,” Herro said.
The young guard further added that he never made a trade demand, trusting the team’s word. Lillard’s move to Milwaukee, where he teams up with Giannis Antetokounmpo has intensified the Eastern Conference rivalry. And with Jrue Holiday’s trade to the Boston Celtics, the conference dynamics have undoubtedly changed.
As the new season approaches, Herro and the Heat face the challenge of overcoming the offseason upset. With a renewed commitment and a point to prove, Herro has the potential to show his talents and solidify his place in Miami and the whole NBA.
