Stephen Curry is not one that was associated with the area of filmmaking. His most recent cameo was in a 30-second teaser for ‘Nope’. It did not get the engagement he’s used to but he was offered a much bigger role in ‘Space Jam 2.’ Like a big part of his game, he passed.
Chef Curry has played 13 seasons in the league and won multiple NBA titles. He’s also a 2 time MVP and a unanimous one at that. But Space Jam has been a cult classic where the best of the best on the court feature on the screen. But Curry should top that list.
Stephen Curry misses out on Space Jam 2
Space Jam 2 was released on 16th July 2021 which was 25 years after Space Jam 1 was released. Michael Jordan was the big name that headlined the first movie and it was a super hit. But Warner Brothers had to capitalize on that with a sequel and they waited till they found a suitable replacement.
LeBron James was in the GOAT debate with Jordan and became the face of Space Jam 2. He wanted the biggest stars to feature in the film and got most of them. Apart from Anthony Davis, Klay Thompson, and Damian Lillard, there were a lot of other big celebrities in the cast.
Stephen Curry was asked but he denied it.
“I said no. The timing of it. I know LeBron and Ryan Coogler are going to be doing amazing things. It’s going to be awesome. Part of it was in terms of things that I had going on. It was just the timing, to be honest.
Not being able to commit. And I know Ryan really well. We had a lot of conversations about it. He’s a die-hard Warriors fan. He’s at every playoff game. Obviously, that’s hard to turn down. That guy does amazing work.”
But the movie did not do well. It got only 26% on Rotten Tomatoes and 36% on Metacritic. However, his being in it could have made it better. He could’ve brought in millions of fans but the timing was off. We have not seen in him.
