SUMMARY
- Anthony Davis is now 0-10 against Domontas Sabonis.
- Draymond Green opines that AD is the better player and that this record doesn't reveal the complete picture.
Draymond Green recently shared quite an interesting take on the recent discussions that the basketball community has been engaging in regarding Anthony Davis and Domontas Sabonis. To the few who might not be aware, AD is the center for the Los Angeles Lakers. Similarly, Sabonis plays the same position for the Sacramento Kings.
After the Kings managed to defeat the Lakers once again this season, an interesting statistic materialized and revealed that Davis has not won a single game against Sabonis throughout their respective careers. This undoubtedly generated quite a lot of positive attention for Sabonis and criticism towards AD. However, Draymond tried to break down the situation with a different perspective during his recent podcast episode.
Draymond Green defends Anthony Davis’ subpar record vs Domontas Sabonis
If fans compare the professional accomplishments of Anthony Davis and Domontas Sabonis, it is clear that AD has done a lot more in his career. After all, Davis is a part of the NBA’s top 75 players and is an NBA champion. On the other hand, Sabonis failed to even make the NBA All-Star game this season.
However, Sabonis has emerged victorious in every single matchup against Davis. Both of their teams have faced off for 10 regular season games so far and Sabonis has a 10-0 record against AD’s team. While this would certainly imply that Sabonis is the better of the two, Draymond had a different point of view.
Draymond Green believes Domantas Sabonis’ head-to-head record against Anthony Davis is a coincidence and not a case of Sabonis really busting his ass

“I actually view that as one of those coincidence type things like do we really believe that Sabonis is better than AD or could he be a tough matchup? But you also can’t make it just about Sabonis and AD… Because the reality is Sacramento offense does run through Sabonis but not in a manner of like I’m busting your a*s…It ain’t that… You can’t ignore De’Aaron Fox…”
Perhaps Draymond Green has a point. It would be unfair to claim that Sabonis is better than Davis merely because his team has been more successful. That said, fans might want to know more about the numbers the two NBA stars have put up in their games so far.
Davis has averaged more points and rebounds against Sabonis in their 10 matchups so far
Upon taking a closer look at the numbers, Anthony Davis has averaged 23.1 points, 10.8 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 10 games against Sabonis. On the other hand, Domontas has averaged 13.3 points, 10.6 rebounds, and 4.5 assists in those same games.
The stats prove that AD is a better scorer and rebounder when compared to Sabonis. Domontas has put up more assists when playing against Davis. This goes to show that Sabonis is a better facilitator and more diverse in comparison to Davis.Unfortunately, these numbers do not show the full story. After all, there is no way of knowing how often both NBA stars guarded each other and the result of those direct matchups. In any case, fans are left free to decide which player is better based on their record and statistics over the years.
