The 2022-23 NBA is going in full swing right now and it seems like details for the next season have already been revealed. There have been many reports emerging mentioning that there might be major changes coming to the league’s seasonal calendar.
Not only that, some have speculated that there might be a tournament going on midseason as well. Let’s take a look at when the games will start for the 2023-24 NBA season.
Will there be a midseason tournament during the 2023-24 NBA season?
According to Shams Charania, Adam Silver and the NBA have communicated with all the teams in the league about the dates. The first game of the next season will be played on October 24th, 2023. And it will be ending on April 14th, 2024.
NBA informed teams today that the 2023-24 season will start on Oct. 24, 2023, and conclude April 14, 2024.
Noteworthy: If/when In-Season Tournament is approved, initial schedule will have 80 games per team; remaining games scheduled after eight teams advance to knockout rounds.

One might wonder how the schedule ends earlier despite the late start. The league has started around the second or third week of October in the last few years, but that will not be the case next year. The main reason for the early end as well would be the fact that there is a high chance of a midseason tournament occurring next year.
The season will consist of 80 games and the “Remaining games scheduled after eight teams advance to knockout rounds,” as Charania mentioned.
Many NBA fans have argued that there should not be a midseason tournament, mainly because it might spoil the game’s original spirit. However, Adam Silver mentioned earlier this year that the new system of a tournament during the season will bring new traditions into the sport we all love. In addition to that, Silver mentioned that the league should be aiming to keep up with the times.
“It’s not gonna happen overnight. To create a new tradition may take a bit of time.”

However, he admitted that it will not be an immediate success among fans and players and that it will be a few years before it’s implemented in the best way possible for all concerned parties.
