Michael Jordan was the biggest athlete around during the 80s and 90s. He was famous for pulling in crowds from different parts of the country even if they were supporters of an opposing team. Being as good as he was, MJ got a lot of attention from women. Back then, he had the biggest paychecks given out by the NBA and also signed a historic deal with Nike. All this eventually led him to become a billionaire today.
In 1985, the Chicago Bulls legend met a woman named Juanita Vanoy. They would meet at Bulls games and soon sparks began to fly between the two. Jordan would go out with Vanoy often. After having an incredible rookie season, he was sidelined with a fractured hand. Juanita kept him company while he was away from the game and eventually they got engaged in 1987. Two years later, they got married.
Michael Jordan and Juanita Vanoy were madly in love with each other at the beginning of their relationship. A rare interview featuring the couple took place in 1991 and they were asked who won arguments the most. Jordan responded, “Come on…, who wins in your house? Who wins in all the houses? That’s not even a good question to ask. You know she wins every argument.” He laughingly admitted that Vanoy always had the last say in every argument. Soon, even the reasons behind these arguments were also revealed to the world.
Michael Jordan’s gambling addiction and infidelity ended his marriage with Juanita Vanoy
Michael Jordan had a couple of rough patches during his career. The 6x NBA Champion retired twice during the 90s. His father’s death influenced his first retirement and his second retirement was after the Bulls had another three-peat. The reason behind his second retirement was speculated to be his crippling gambling addiction. Fans believe that the NBA either suspended or kicked him out because his addiction was so terrible.
Michael Jordan and wife Juanita Vanoy ended their 17-year marriage in 2006. In the settlement, she won $168 million, the seven-acre estate in Chicago, and custody of their three children. His addiction along with rumors of affairs may have led to Jordan and Vanoy’s divorce. They called for a divorce in 2002 but tried to work things out for a couple more years. Eventually, they split due to “irreconcilable differences” and Vanoy walked away with a $168 million settlement price. They had three children together, Jeffery, Marcus, and Jasmine.
