The Philadelphia 76ers are one of the best teams in the NBA. At the heart of everything the Sixers do is none other than Joel Embiid. Embiid is yet again putting in a sensational performance with the Sixers. The Sixers drafted Embiid as 3rd overall in the first round of the 2014 NBA Draft. Since his arrival the Sixers are going places, however, he is yet to have a successful playoff run. This time around it looks the Sixers are prepared for it.
Embiid is the defending Scoring title champion, and yet again is proving why he is. He once again leads the way averaging 33.5 points. He is also averaging 10.1 rebounds and 4.2 assists. Embiid is simply the Sixers MVP as he leads in all departments except for steals. Simply put he is a man on a mission for the Sixers. Despite his injury concerns he is not going to bow out in the playoffs. He is also known by an interesting nickname, “The Process.”

The Sixers were able to draft Joel Embiid in 2014 all because of one man’s genius, Sam Hinkie. At the time the Sixers general manager was Hinkie. He put a system in place, “The Process”, where they would trade out players for draft picks. These draft picks would be used to sign future stars to have a bright future. Joel Embiid is the result of the process when the Sixers were able to get Embiid in the first round of the draft.
How did the NBA cause Joel Embiid to choose the nickname ‘The Process’?
This Process set in place by Sam Hinkie didn’t sit well with the NBA. Hinkie eventually got removed from the position of general manager. A move that was influenced by the league, which wasn’t liked by Joel Embiid. “[Hinkie] was basically forced out by – I don’t want to say names, but you know I’m outspoken, so I’ll say it – by the NBA,” said Embiid. He decided to stick with the nickname, “The Process”, to keep Hinkie’s spirit alive.
In The Draymond Green Show, Joel Embiid talked about why he stuck with the nickname. “they basically forced him out, and I didn’t like it … Around that time, the league did not like ‘The Process’, because it was a bunch of losing. They say it was tanking, that we [were] losing on purpose.” said Embiid.
“So, I got p*ssed off because they ran Sam Hinkie out of town, and I knew that they didn’t like ‘The Process,’ all the losing stuff.” continued Embiid. “I’m going to piss some people off.’ Even around the team, there was a bunch of people that didn’t like that word.” Said Embiid on the show.
The Approach used by former GM Sam Hinkie may be debatable, however, he is the reason why the Sixers are currently a top team in the NBA. The process can be said to have influenced the trade for James Harden as well. This saw their draft pick Ben Simmons, Seth curry, and Andre Drummond go the other way. Despite all the controversy, Embiid does not shy away from keeping his recruiter’s spirit alive to this day.
