WNBA and Pheonix Mercury star player Brittney Griner is currently off the news for quite some time. She seems to be recovering from the events that happened to her from the Russia arrest. It’s been two years since she hasn’t played basketball in WNBA.
However, Brittney’s last game was the WNBA Finals on October 17, 2021, between Phoenix Mercury and Chicago Sky. Brittney scored 28 points in Game 4, however, Mercury lost the game 74-80 over the Sky. The finals were also won by Sky with a score of 3-1.
Playing 41 games in the regular season in 2021, Griner averaged 20.5 points and 9.5 rebounds per game. Along with this, she was named seventh on the All-Star list. In the playoffs, Griner played 11 games averaging 21.8 points and 8.4 rebounds per game.

Following Brittney’s release from the arrest, she came back to the U.S. and was seen on the basketball court. However, during her detention she was offered to play basketball providing a ball and hoop, however, she declined. But being months away from basketball was quite difficult for Brittney.
According to an ESPN reporter, Brittney’s first action after coming back was a dunk wearing a Title IX shirt and Suns shorts with a pair of black shoes. Apart from this, she made two public appearances with her wife Cherelle Griner in sports events including the Super Bowl LVII and the WM Phoenix Open golf tournament.
As of today, she has currently put herself on hold from playing any game in WNBA. Putting her mental health as a priority caused amid the arrest case is necessary for her as of now. However, with her release, Griner took to her Instagram and publicly gave some statements. “I want to make one thing very clear: I intend to play basketball for the WNBA’s Phoenix Mercury this season, and in doing so, I look forward to being able to say ‘thank you’ to those of you who advocated, wrote, and posted for me in person soon.” – she said.
Thus, Brittney Griner will soon be making her appearance in the 2023 WNBA season after a long time. Her fans are eagerly waiting for her to come back and watch her dominant gameplay.
