We all know LeBron James has played at the highest level for an unreal amount of time in his NBA career. The King is entering year 20 and is showing no real signs of slowing down. Serena Williams is a world-famous tennis player and a sports legend much like LeBron.
At 37 going on 38 years of age, King James is a veteran in the league that some people still consider to be in his prime. However, it would interest some people to know that Serena Wiliams already won her first U.S.A Open Match even before LeBron James made his high school basketball debut for St Vincent’s St Marys.
One must wonder how this is possible and how much olden Williams is to James. Thus, we should look closely at the situation.
Serena Williams is only 3 years older than LeBron James
Those who follow Tennis know about the displays of greatness by Serena Williams. She has won 23 Grand Slam titles and even won in the 2012 Olympics. Serena started playing Tennis at a young age alongside her sister Venus. Moreover, the two sisters were undefeated in the Grand Slam Doubles.
Thus, Serena is widely considered one of the greatest tennis players ever. Coming back to the NBA and LeBron James, we all know he is 37 years old and entered the NBA in 2003. Moreover, he skipped college and declared for the draft fresh out of high school.
That means King James began playing high school level basketball in 2000. On the other hand, Serena Williams had already won her first U.S.A Open match back in 1999.
3 years is a lot of time in the world of professional athletes. Additionally, tennis does not have as high a level of competition as basketball. Simply put, since basketball is a contact sport, full growth and development are crucial for the highest level of play.
On the other hand, tennis is a non-contact sport. Therefore, Serena did not have to wait to develop like LeBron did during his early years in high school. In any case, both athletes playing at a high level from a young age and displaying an extended prime deserve a fair share of recognition.
