With UFC 286 and its aftermath now behind us, things are heating up in the welterweight division more than ever. The ongoing chaos in one of the most stacked divisions goes unnoticed without mentioning Colby Covington. The 35-year-old shocked fight fans last week when he made a surprise appearance on the weighing scales. The promotion had Colby as the backup fighter for the O2 Arena’s main event.
However, ‘Chaos‘ isn’t done just yet. The Miami resident recently appeared doing an interview with MMAFightingonSBN wherein he made some controversial yet headline-making comments. Despite receiving a lot of heat for his tendentious views in the past, nothing seems to have stopped Covington from “telling it like it is.”
In the same show, Colby gave a debilitating response to UFC play-by-play commentator Jon Anik‘s recent comments. Besides that, the California-born also made his case as to why UFC welterweight Belal Muhammad should be the last in line to deserve a shot at the gold.
For clarity @bullyb170 is not racist and is one of the kindest most genuine human beings I know. And @Jon_Anik I’m in SoFlo and on the Miami card. If any unsavory characters in or out of the UFC actually approach you, hit me up and I’ll take out the trash for ya.

Ever since several UFC fighters have shown up on Twitter in support of their friend Jon Anik. One such athlete is the middleweight Gerald Meerschaert. In his tweet, he shares that he knows Belal on a personal level to not be a racist and also insinuated he will be on the lookout for anyone who approached Anik in Miami with evil intentions. He shared,
“For clarity @bullyb170 is not racist and is one of the kindest most genuine human beings I know. And @Jon_Anik I’m in SoFlo and on the Miami card. If any unsavory characters in or out of the UFC actually approach you, hit me up and I’ll take out the trash for ya.“
Things heat up between Colby Covington and Belal Muhammad
While fresh heat continues to brew in UFC’s welterweight division, fans are debating about who deserves the next shot at the gold strap more. In the UFC 286 post-fight presser, president Dana White declared Colby as the next in line to face the welterweight champion Leon Edwards for the belt. Since then, neither have the MMA fans stopped buzzing about it nor have the fighters.
In what appears to be a now-deleted tweet, Belal Muhammad made a questionable tweet suggesting Colby’s next title shot has something to do with the color of his skin. Colby being Colby, the former title challenger grabbed this opportunity to fire back at Belal. Fans thought it might have been the end of it. However, Muhammad went back and posted a tweet reminding fans of Colby’s infamous rant towards the country of Brazil.
No matter how this whole ordeal plays out, the one thing sure is that Covington will be facing Edwards for the latter’s second title defense. Per Colby’s ideal world, the fight has to happen during International Fight Week in July on “the American soil”. What do you think about the recent developments in the welterweight division?
