The 2023 ESPY Awards ceremony was held at Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on July 12, 2023. This year’s ESPY, which is abridged for ‘Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly,’ marked the 31st edition of the awards, which had some of the star players in attendance. The ESPY this year also honored inspiring and courageous athletes with awards like the Arthur Ashe Award for courage and the Jimmy V Award for perseverance. However, this year, Novak Djokovic again s stole the show.
Novak Djokovic, who reached the Wimbledon 2023 men’s singles semi-finals just a day before, has won the 2023 ESPY Award as the ‘Best Tennis Player’ for the sixth time in his career. The other nominees for this prestigious award, apart from Novak were Carlos Alcaraz (world #1), Iga Swiatek (world #1), and Aryna Sabalenka (world #2). The award undoubtedly was a unanimous decision of the ESPY panel and has once again opened up the GOAT debate for the sports fraternity and the fans.

Tbh when someone says “one of the greatest” I can accept it if what follows is “athletes ever”, we could discuss that, but when it comes to tennis… there’s only one truth 🐐

Djokovic fans have a lot to cheer for since the crowds at the ongoing Wimbledon Championships have once again been found wanting in their unequivocal support for Novak Djokovic, who is gunning for a record-matching 8th Wimbledon title, to tie him with grass-court maestro Roger Federer.
The Twitterati has erupted with countless reactions from fans across the world as if they are waging a war in support of Novak Djokovic, who is marching forward in his quest for glory.
The astonishing records of Novak Djokovic
As soon as Novak Djokovic became the recipient of ESPY tennis award for the sixth time, one Novak fan suggested that he should be rather awarded as the best sporting athlete of all time and not just tennis, surpassing the likes of Mohammad Ali and Michael Jordan.
This is a testimony of the longevity he has maintained at the highest level, in one of the toughest sports that is demanding both physically and mentally. In the process, he has created a plethora of records that are unmatchable, which truly make him a ‘living legend’.
But one of the most spectacular has come this year. The ESPY awardee of 2023, has won two consecutive Grand Slams- the Australian and the French Open, to make him the first male player in the history of the sport to reach 23 Grand Slam singles titles, thus leapfrogging ahead of his great rivals Rafael Nadal (22) and Roger Federer (20).
This has come at a mind-boggling age of 36 years, while he is still going strong, and will continue to do so in the coming years, as per tennis pundits!
