Matteo Berrettini and Ajla Tomljanovic had a fairytale romance for three years. But unlike proper fairytales, their story did not end well. While they dated, they had ups and downs, like every relationship. However, Ajla has a word of caution for her peers.
The Australian tennis player Tomljanovic was one of the breakout stars of the first season of ‘Break Point‘. It is a documentary produced by Netflix that follows tennis players as they go for glory.
Ajla stole the show from her peers with her stunning victory over Serena Williams at the US Open in 2022. It was the last match of Williams’ long and glorious career.
The Aussie revealed that she was in a different headspace by the time Wimbledon rolled around. She had broken up with her longtime boyfriend Berrettini by then. She was even playing better after her disastrous showing at the Australian Open, where she was eliminated in the first round.
The camera crew had caught a moment between the pair, which got fans wondering if all was well with them. Berrettini had famously asked Ajla to not film in their hotel room. He told her to find another room and not disturb him as he was still in the Australian Open, unlike her. They broke up soon after.
Tomljanovic has a word of caution for her peers. While she did not discourage anyone from putting their romance on camera, she would, “think twice,” before doing it again. “I’m not saying, ‘Don’t do it,’ but from my experience, I would maybe think twice,” said Tomljanovic (via Tennis.com).
Why did Ajla Tomljanovic and Matteo Berrettini break up?
For three years, Matteo Berrettini and Ajla Tomjlanovic were the ‘It’ couple within the tennis fraternity. However, cracks were starting to appear in their relationship. Both stars opened up about the reason they broke up in the second season of Break Point. The second season came out in June earlier this year.
They revealed the reason in the first episode itself. The Aussie star felt that things were not right between herself and Matteo. She revealed that it had been a tough year for her, and it was apparent from her on-court behavior as well. “I could just feel that things were not right,” she said.
Matteo claimed that they were not happy together anymore. He felt it was not worth carrying on if neither were happy in the relationship.
Matteo Berretini is currently dating Italian TV presenter Melissa Satta. Injuries have kept him on the sidelines a lot but he will be seen at the US Open next. The tournament begins on August 28th.
