Boston Celtics fans do not appear to be too pleased with the most recent move made by their franchise in acquiring Jrue Holiday from the Portland Trail Blazers. To the fans who might be unaware of ongoing events, Holiday and several other assets were recently traded to the Blazers by the Milwaukee Bucks in order to acquire Damian Lillard.
Since the Portland Trail Blazers are in a state of rebuilding, it did not make much sense for them to hold onto Jrue for next season. After all, he is an aging point guard approaching the back end of his career. Giving the keys to the franchise to the next generation of players such as Scoot Henderson might have been the right call.
While it is no real surprise that the Blazers almost instantly traded away Jrue Holiday, not many fans would have predicted how much Portland would be able to get from the Boston Celtics in return for Jrue. With that being said, let us take a better look at the situation and also find out what fans have to say on the subject.
NBA fans disapprove of the Boston Celtics’ trade for Jrue Holiday
There is no denying that Jrue Holiday has proven himself to be a certified star in the league. After all, acquiring him led to the Milwaukee Bucks managing to win the 2021 NBA title. Throughout his NBA career so far, Holiday has averaged 16.4 points, 4.1 rebounds and 6.5 assists. Since he is certainly one of the better point guards in the league, it made sense for the Celtics to bring him onto the team.
In return for acquiring Holiday, Boston gave up Malcolm Brogdon, Robert Williams III, and two future first-round draft picks. Considering that Holiday is 33 years old and approaching the backend of his career, many Celtics fans shared an opinion that Boston has given up too much in order to get Jrue Holiday on the team, “Boston gave up too much.”

We can certainly understand why fans feel this way. Brogdon is 30 years old and Robert Williams is only 25. Both these players have a lot more to offer Boston when compared to Holiday at this point in time. Moreover, Jrue’s injury history has given Celtics fans good cause for concern.
In any case, it might be best to wait till the end of this season before concluding that the Boston Celtics got the worst half of the deal in this trade. After all, if Holiday is able to guide Tatum and Brown to win their first title, the narrative surrounding Jrue will undoubtedly change in the basketball community.
