Anthony Joshua is one of the most renowned boxers on the planet. Having had a massively successful career so far, he is widely regarded as one of the best heavyweight boxers the sport has ever seen. Naturally, his status and reputation have also attracted some opposition over the years.
For the most part, one of Anthony Joshua’s biggest rivals has been fellow countryman Tyson Fury. Previously, AJ held the WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, and IBO heavyweight titles before eventually losing them to Oleksandr Usyk. However, had the situation allowed for it, he would instead have been squaring off against WBC and The Ring heavyweight title holder Fury.
Over the years, we have seen the two boxers have their back-and-forths. Although a fight between the two has failed to materialize on numerous occasions, it is understood that the fight will take place at some point. With both Joshua and Fury keen to call time on their careers at the right time, it is possible that we will finally see the fight in the near future.
Anthony Joshua fires a stern warning at Tyson Fury for past comments
For the most part, Anthony Joshua is one of the most humble and respectful fighters you’ll ever see. Although he did go off on an absurd rant to steal Oleksandr Usyk‘s winning moment in 2022, there haven’t been many times that the British boxer has acted out. However, when it comes to his opposition, Joshua is very careful to make a note of what they say about him.
In a recent appearance on The Jonathan Ross Show, AJ let his thoughts be known about Tyson Fury and his comments in the past. Indirectly referring to Fury and all those who have spoken ill of him, Joshua said:
“When I go back to the gym and I see someone talking about my haircut and all that stuff, you take it personal and you meditate on it, and you wanna punish them for what they said about you.”
Speaking about Tyson Fury and his ‘silly sausage’ comment in particular, he added:
“This is one of my rivals, this is someone I want to compete with one day. So, everything he says, I’ve got it all stored in the back of my memory and when the fight happens, I’m going to use it as fuel.”
In the past, a fight between AJ and Fury was scheduled for August 14th, 2021 in Saudi Arabia. However, Deontay Wilder’s involvement meant that a trilogy fight between him and Fury had to take place instead. Thereafter, the fight was again touted for December of 2022. Unfortunately, the fight once again fell through owing to rumors of Fury seemingly retiring from the sport.
What is next for Anthony Joshua after the win over Francis Ngannou?
All things considered, there is still hope that Anthony Joshua will face Tyson Fury following the latter’s fights against Oleksandr Usyk. With the fight having been pushed to 2024 due to Fury’s near loss to Francis Ngannou, it is certain that Usyk and Fury will likely face each other twice. Thereafter, ‘The Gypsy King’ reportedly intends to take on Joshua in the ‘biggest fight in British boxing history’.
Currently, AJ is taking some well-deserved time off from fighting. Having absolutely pummelled Francis Ngannou last month, there is no clear fight for the soon-to-be 35-year-old. Since the losses to Usyk, Joshua has been on a wild run taking out the likes of Jermaine Franklin, Robert Helenius, and Otto Wallin. Although a fight against Deontay Wilder was targeted, the boxer’s loss to Joseph Parker made it difficult.
Recently, Derek Chisora couldn’t help but disclose that Anthony Joshua would be taking on the winner of Filip Hrgovic vs Daniel Dubois in the headliner of an event hosted by Queensbury Promotions at Wembley Stadium later in the year. An interesting fight and it will also help Joshua stay fit and ready should the Fury fight finally materialize.
