Luka Doncic has emerged as one of the favorites for the 2022-23 NBA MVP award. The likes of Nikola Jokic, Jayson Tatum, and Giannis Antetokounmpo are also alongside the Dallas Mavericks hotshot. Luka has been on electrifying form this season and has made his case for the award stronger than ever.

On the other hand, Nikola Jokic and Jayson Tatum are believed to be the competitors right now, as the NBA MVP Ladder as of December 30 suggests. Make no mistake, both Jokic and Tatum have been exceptional for their respective teams as well. But fans seem to lean to Luka’s side after witnessing the magic he produced in the last few games.
Can Luka Doncic win the 2022-23 NBA MVP award?
Luka turned the world upside down after putting up a whopping 60 points against the New York Knicks a few days ago. Together with that, he also made 10 assists and 21 rebounds. That’s just the tip of the iceberg, however. In the last 5 games, the lowest number of points he scored was 25. To put it into perspective, Luka has made 25, 50, 32, 60, and 35 points in these games. In three of these games, he missed only missed a triple-double narrowly.
It looks like this has convinced NBA fans to root for him to be the MVP this season. Although many believe the award is presented to a player who has made notable contributions in defense as well, some fans claim Luka should sit at the top spot. A fan tweeted, “Delete this asap and don’t disrespect Luka anymore. Dude is putting and all-time great season,” as he thinks Luka has been the standout player so far this season.

Honestly what does Doncic have to do to be first? Dude literally just had a 60/20/10 game and moved up to 5th seed in the west

It is quite evident that Luka is the name on everyone’s lips. If we take Nikola Jokic’s stats from recent games into account, it is a close fight among the European nationals. In 32 games, Jokic has averaged 25.5 points, 10.9 rebounds, and 9.5 assists. The Denver Nuggets star is extremely close to averaging a triple-double this season. Luka on the other hand has averaged 33.7 points, 8.9 assists, and 8.8 rebounds in 33 games.
The numbers indicate that both of them are in a tight race for the MVP award. However, fans believe that Luka should bag the award, especially since he has been the standout performer for the Mavs in almost every game. Whatever the case is, it would be interesting for us all to see who wins the award at the end of the season, Luka, Jokic, or any other player.
