Khazmat Chimaev is one of the most dreaded fighters in the world of mixed martial arts right now. However, one reason why he is loved by fans all around is that he produces those unintentionally funny moments out of nowhere. Something similar happened recently when Khamzat met heavyweight fighter Ciryl Gane.
Top UFC middleweight fighter Khamzat Chimaev shared a funny moment with heavyweight contender Ciryl Gane recently. The two met inside a cage, and ‘Borz, being himself, went for a takedown when he was about to greet Gane. Now, obviously, it was a completely harmless interaction between the two, and things were on the lighter side.
However, fans were quick enough to point out that Gane did not even try to defend the takedown initiated by Khamzat. This was even more surprising, as defense is kind of a natural response or reflex for a fighter. “Probably gave Gane instant flashbacks to the Jones fight,” read a harsh reply by a fan who pointed out Ciryl Gane’s one-sided loss against UFC Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones on March 4, 2023.

Another fan threw light on Khamzat’s dreadful personality in the UFC as they wrote, “Ganes life just flashed before his eyes”. One MMA enthusiast pointed out the weight difference between the two as Gane fights in the heavyweight division of the UFC and Khamzat Chimaev has recently made his middleweight debut. “Gane almost got out grappled by a man 100 lbs lighter than him,” said the user in ‘X’.
Last month at UFC 294, Khamzat Chimaev secured a majority decision victory over former UFC champion Kamaru Usman in a 185-lbs bout. It was anticipated that he would face Sean Strickland for the title, but unfortunately, the Chechnya native sustained a wrist injury, rendering him unable to participate in the January bout.
Ciryl Gane was handed a disappointing loss against Jon Jones at UFC 285
Having not competed since 2019, when Jon Jones secured a decision victory over Dominick Reyes to defend the Light Heavyweight Championship, Jon was eyeing the belt that had been vacant after Francis Ngannou’s exit. Throughout Jones’ hiatus, none of the contenders managed to establish themselves as the undisputed best in his absence.
When news broke of Jones making a comeback in a new weight class, there were questions about whether the 35-year-old still possessed the same skill and dominance. The emphatic answer came in the form of a resounding “yes” as Jones effortlessly overwhelmed Gane.

The bout was lopsided, with Jon Jones engaging with Ciryl Gane for the initial minute before closing in, executing a takedown, and controlling the fight on the mat. Jones aggressively improved his position, eventually stacking Gane and applying a guillotine choke. ‘Bon Gamin’ swiftly tapped out, recognizing there was no escape, and Bones became the new UFC heavyweight champion.
This was, for sure, the most disappointing loss in the MMA career of Ciryl Gane. However, he did manage to produce a strong comeback against Serghei Spivak, whom he defeated by a second-round TKO on September 2, 2023.
