Gilbert Burns fought Neil Magny on the main card of UFC 283 in Brazil. Burns was coming back after his all-time classic bout against Khamzat Chimaev at UFC 273. Magny, on the other hand, had a great submission win over Daniel Rodriguez in his last fight. So how did the bout go between two veteran welterweight fighters on the very first PPV card of the year? Let’s find out.

Burns took off a long time after his fight against Chimaev. Hence, he looked fresh and showed no signs of ring rust. He pretty much went to work immediately after the bell rang. He effortlessly lifted Magny up and slammed him for a takedown along the fences. He smothered Neil with his elite Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) skills. When Burns has the top position it is game over for any fighter on the roster.

So was the case against Magny. The 36-year-old did not have to try hard to get into the position to find the submission. At the 4:15 minute mark of the very first round, Burns got the tap from Magy from a head and arm triangle. He was the 5th ranked fighter in the welterweight division and proceeded to make a big callout after his win.

Gilbert added, “I wanna be back very quick and I’m gonna finish everybody. Colby Covington, I’m coming for you!”

Fans react to Gilbert Burns submitting Neil Magny at UFC 283

Everyone knew Gilbert Burns was a problem on the ground. However, Magny was much taller than Burns and had respectable grappling skills as well. But seeing Burns’ easy submission win over the 35-year-old will certainly put Colby Covington on notice. While Covington himself is an absolute beast of a wrestler, Burns would be the stronger fighter inside the Octagon.

This is your reminder: Durinho is that dude 💪

Not only Covington but even the fans are extremely impressed by Burn’s win over Neil. Magny was the 12th ranked fighter in the welterweight division. Hence, many thought Burns would win. But nobody could have guessed just how easy the win really was for Durinho.
