- Former UFC BMF champion Jorge Masvidal took to his account and wrote, "Unretired."
- Fans were unwelcoming toward Masvidal's comeback as they believe he has ran out of money.
Former UFC fighter Jorge Masvidal has announced his comeback with a one-word post on X. Masvidal hoped to give his fans something to celebrate on New Year’s Day by posting “Unretired” on his X account. However, it does not seem to sit well with several fans.
Masvidal fought 52 times in professional MMA and earned a record of 35-17. The end of his career was disappointing as he decided to retire after losing four fights consecutively. His last fight came against Gilbert Burns at UFC 287 in April 2023. After his unanimous decision loss to Burns, Masvidal announced his retirement.
The most controversial turn of his life came after he faced defeat against Colby Covington at UFC 272. A few weeks after the fight, Masvidal allegedly attacked Covington outside a restaurant in Miami. ‘Chaos’ pressed charges against ‘Gamebred’ as the former friends were set to fight it out in the court.
he ran out of money
spent all of it with lawyers, thats sad tbh https://t.co/zi8tflcBOI— kana (@melansiamaluca) January 2, 2024
Almost a year and a half after the incident, Masival pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor battery charge in November 2023. He was ordered to pay court costs and upon his comeback, one fan believes he ran out of money paying the legal fees. They wrote, “He ran out of money spent all of it with lawyers, thats sad tbh.”
Another fan claimed, “We dont care.”
However, a few fans believed that we might see Masvidal at UFC 300 and it could be against Covington. It is quite a long shot because we still do not know if he is making a comeback to MMA. Speculations of a boxing bout against Jake Paul are also circulating.
Colby Covington believes UFC will not give him the “easy” Jorge Masvidal match-up again
After Masvidal and Covington’s court case concluded in November, Gamebred claimed he would meet Covington again. “I don’t know when, but me and Colby are going to see each other at some point,” Masvidal said on The MMA Hour. “Whether it’s in a f*cking cage, or I don’t know where the f*ck it’s going to be, but we’re going to see each other.”
However, Covington possesses a different opinion. According to Chaos, Masvidal is an easy match-up for him and UFC will not be booking him easy fights anymore.
In a dig at Masvidal, Covington told Tucker Carlson, “I don’t think the UFC would sanction that because they just saw how easily I beat him the first time… I beat him every round convincingly, knocked him down, dragged him out. It was a 50-43 and a soda is what I gave him. So, I don’t think the UFC would give me an easy matchup like that ever again.
“UFC likes to make prestigious and high-level fights,” he added. “They wouldn’t want to give me some amateur that’s not on my level.”
Covington recently lost a third shot at the UFC Welterweight title as he faced a unanimous decision defeat to Leon Edwards. It will be interesting to see who the UFC books the 35-year-old against next.
