A few NBA fans believe that Tyler Herro would have been able to prevent the most recent loss that Team USA suffered. To those who do not know, we are in the midst of the 2023 FIBA World Cup. Several countries from across the world are looking to win this international tournament. Since Team USA has a star-studded roster, they are considered the favorites to win it all.
Up until this point, Team USA was undefeated in all official FIBA World Cup games. However, their 104-110 loss to Lithuania has certainly shaken the confidence that fans had in Team USA. Since people have a tendency to blame someone when things go wrong, Austin Reaves is being given a fair share of hate for this loss.
Fans should certainly be wondering if that is justified. Some also seem to believe that Tyler Herro would have been better for the team in comparison to Reaves. With that being said, let us take a closer look and find out.
Can Tyler Herro help Team USA more than Austin Reaves?
Some of us might be aware that Herro was unable to participate for Team USA due to the fact that he has been rehabilitating a hand injury that he suffered last postseason. Although we have yet to see him in action on an NBA court, fans shouldn’t forget what Tyler Herro is capable of doing.
Coming back to the situation that Team USA recently underwent, all of the starters underperformed. The only exception was Anthony Edwards who finished the night with 35 points. Despite the fact that Austin Reaves has been incredibly hyped up by the media, he didn’t bring his best game for Team USA in their loss to Lithuania.
Reaves scored only 7 points, most of which came from the free-throw line. He made only 1 out of 4 shot attempts and missed both his three-point attempts. Considering that he averaged 13 points a game on efficient shooting last season, this was quite an underperformance. Since Tyler Herro averaged 20.1 points per game last season, fans believe that he would have done better for Team USA, “Herro should have been on this team not reaves.”

Unfortunately, we have no way of knowing how things would have turned out if Herro had been on the Team USA squad. He might just have been able to help get them those 7 additional points they needed to win the game.
In any case, there is no point dwelling on a loss and lamenting the failure of ideal situations. Team USA is not eliminated from contention yet and can still win the 2023 FIBA World Cup.
