The real-life rivalry between Triple H and CM Punk is well-known to professional wrestling fans. Both stars have openly admitted in the past that they are not on good terms. While there have been issues between both since 2005, things got worse during their feud in 2011.
Triple H allegedly used his backstage influence to get the win over Punk at Night of Champions PPV in 2011. This incident, according to fans, made Punk’s relationship with Hunter worse. In 2014, CM Punk left the WWE after he was unhappy with his character direction. WWE then fired the former WWE Champion on his wedding day.
Triple H during an appearance on WWE Hall of Famer Stone Cold Steve Austin’s “Stone Cold Podcast” addressed the situation with Punk. Triple H revealed that Punk was a “weird” guy and someone who keeps to himself. He also admitted that he had communication issues with Punk in the past.
“He’s a weird cat. Like, I don’t mean that as a knock but I mean that as a, he’s hard to get to know he’s, he doesn’t talk. He doesn’t communicate well, I would hear from everybody in my role now as you know, talent relations and all that I would hear to everybody that ‘oh my god, he’s livid today he’s quitting he’s this he’s that’ and I’d go to him and say what’s going on and I’d get ‘it’s fine.” Triple H said.
CM Punk vs AEW controversy: What is CM Punk doing now?
Punk made his much-anticipated return to a professional wrestling ring when he signed with AEW in 2021. The Straight Edge Superstar won the AEW World Heavyweight Championship twice at the promotion.
Things then went downhill after he was involved in a backstage fight with AEW’s EVPs Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks last year following the “All Out” PPV. All four of them were stripped of their respective championships and were suspended by Tony Khan following the incident. While Omega and The Bucks returned to the company, there are no signs of Punk.
Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer recently gave an update on Punk’s return. He said that neither Punk nor the Elite has done anything to repair their broken relationship.
“A lot of damage done, there’s a lot of mending of fences that needs to be done, and there’s been no mending of fences. At all. It’s a big situation, because Punk could be back in two months, then there’s a decision. That’s gonna be a big story, how that goes down, or doesn’t go down.” (h/t: Wrestletalk)
Punk is currently recovering from the injury that he suffered at All Out. Fans are eagerly waiting to see what happens to the controversial star moving forward. Some believe that the former WWE champion is done with professional wrestling and will not be competing again.
