Anthony Davis recently shared his feelings about missing out on NBA accolades throughout his career so far. As many NBA fans might be aware, Davis is a 30-year-old star for the Los Angeles Lakers and helped the franchise win an NBA championship in 2020 while playing alongside LeBron James in the Orlando Bubble.
Over the years, the opinions and stances that fans have regarding Davis have been quite polarizing. On one hand, many fans believe that he is an incredible talent and has the potential to be one of the best players in the league. Others claim that he is incredibly injury-prone and just as much a liability to his team as he is an asset.
In any case, Davis indirectly took shots at the NBA while defending his abilities and accomplishments. That said, let us take a closer look at what he had to say.
Does Anthony Davis have a DPOY award?
Although winning an NBA championship is considered the ultimate award by the majority of NBA players, the league hands out several other accolades to the stars in the league. After all, winning an NBA title is a team effort and doesn’t really speak to the individual impact of the player.
Hence the league hands out MVPs All NBA teams and several other accolades to players for the success that they have seen regardless of the team’s victory. One of the more prestigious awards would be the Defensive Player of the Year award. As fans might be able to tell from the name, the award is given to the player who had the most impact on the defensive end for his team.
While Anthony Davis is considered an elite shot blocker and rim protector, he has yet to win a DPOY award. He recently discussed his feelings on not winning the award, “I feel like I got cheated out of a couple of defensive awards. If I do what I’m supposed to do, play how I’m supposed to play that stuff will come. At the end of the day, the goal is to win championships. I mean it’s how many rings I can get before it’s said and done.”

AD certainly sounds salty by claiming that he got cheated out of a few defensive player awards. However, he managed to remind himself that the ultimate goal remains winning an NBA championship and that he looks forward to winning more of them before the end of his career.
