UFC 300 is officially in the books! The card lived up to its hype with the thrilling BMF fight between Max Holloway and Justin Gaethje. The co-main event between UFC Women’s Strawweight Champion Weili Zhang and Yan Xiaonan was also an exciting fight to watch for the fans. However, all the eyes were on the main event bout between light heavyweight champ Alex Pereira and Jamahal Hill.
Hill, who won the 205lbs belt against Glover Teixeira at UFC 283, relinquished the belt shortly afterward because of a torn Achilles. Hence, this was Hill’s chance to regain the title that he never lost. Pereira, on the other hand, won the title at UFC 295 against Jiri Prochazka. In a way, the winner of this fight would have been the true undisputed light heavyweight king. So how did it go? Let’s find out.
Alex Pereira dusts Jamahal Hill at UFC 300
Both Jamahal Hill and Alex Pereira are heavy hitters and it was not surprising to see them have a cautious start to the fight. The first three minutes of round 1 were light on the action as they were trying to figure out each other’s movements and game plan. However, it only took one single opening from Hill which was enough for Alex Pereira to land the killer blow.
Just before the finishing sequence, Hill landed a kick on Pereira’s cup and referee Herb Dean was about to stop the action to check on the champ. However, the Brazilian was locked in on Jamahal and pushed Dean away. Right after that, Poatan landed a left hook that connected to Hill’s chin and dropped him. As soon as the punch landed, Hill’s eyes rolled back into his head which was visible during a slow-motion replay.

Right after the former champ went down, Pereira’s instincts kicked in and he followed up with some brutal hammer fists and finished the bout at the 3:14 minute of the first round. After the bout, Alex added that he made some mistakes with leg kicks initially, but he adjusted soon and got the victory in the most brutal fashion possible. However, once his feelings about the win settled in, Pereira revealed what he wanted to do next.
He said, “I want to keep continue defending this belt. I talked a lot about fighting in Brazil if I won this fight, I won this fight, I’m not hurt, nothing happened. You know, I know there needs to be a lot of promotion behind a fight, but you know I want to have a fight at heavyweight.”

At present, the heavyweight champ Jon Jones is reportedly poised to fight Stipe Miocic once he returns. However, the interim champ Tom Aspinall is yet to find his next fight. While a short-notice bout next month at UFC 301 with Alex would be an exciting prospect for the British fighter, it will be interesting to see what the UFC does next.
