Former UFC champion Chris Weidman returned to the Octagon after staying away from the game for two long years due to a devastating leg injury. He took on Brad Tavares in his comeback fight that took place in the prelim card of UFC 292.
However, when Weidman was walking to the Octagon, UFC commentator Joe Rogan was worried about the fighter getting his right leg injured again. Weidman had suffered the leg-break in his last fight against Uriah Hall that looked career-ending at that point. Rogan exclaimed, that he would be very disappointed if the middleweight veteran gets his leg broken again in his comeback fight as he exclaimed, “I will cry”.
Former UFC double champ Conor McGregor was ready with his fight night tweets as always and replied to Rogan, “Joe, the bar inside the leg CANNOT snap.”. The Irishman hinted at Weidman’s leg being held together by an iron bar and plates after the surgery and that was not going to snap.

‘The Notorious‘ further tweeted that “Two surgeries Chris had as well, the bone wasn’t joining back. Yous have no idea. The usual.” While McGregor wrote that MMA fans had no idea about how serious a leg injury can be especially when you are planning to fight again after that, he for sure knows how it is as he went through something similar after he suffered a leg break himself at UFC 264 against Dustin Poirier.

This is not the first time when McGregor is taking a jibe at the UFC commentator as he also attacked Rogan when the latter commented on his alleged steroid usage.
Chris Weidman could not impress in his comeback fight at UFC 292
Obviously, Weidman has been an absolute legend of the sport and fans have nothing but respect for him for getting back inside the Octagon after such a serious injury at the age of 39. However, the former middleweight champion could not impress many with his performance against Brad Tavares.
Having not fought for a long time, Weidman was outplayed by Tavares in every aspect as he had no answers to Tavares’ dominant striking throughout the bout. All three judges’ scorecards read 30-27 to declare Tavares the winner by a unanimous decision.

Understandably, he was hesitant to kick with the right leg. It definitely affected him mentally and physically and it limited his striking to a great extent. Moreover, Tavares targeted his other leg as well and repeatedly hit it with strong low-kicks. Weidman did hit the usual jabs here and there but failed to successfully land any takedowns as his opponent’s defense was phenomenal.
So, it was a tough return for the former champion and we will have to wait to see what’s next for him as he is nearing the end of his illustrious career. What do you make of Chris Weidman’s return fight against Brad Tavares? let us know in the comments!
