Jake Shields, an American MMA fighter and submission grappler, is famed for making controversial comments on his social media. Hated by many for his guts, Shields has this time targetted American rapper, singer, and actress, Melissa Viviane Jefferson, who is more famously known as Lizzo. Shields has openly fat-shamed Lizzo on Twitter making fun of the confidence she has in her body. Another UFC fighter, Paulo Costa, also joined in on the fat-shaming.

On April 20, 2021, Lizzo posted an unedited picture of herself on Instagram. She was naked in the picture with all her private areas covered. She captioned it:
“WELCOME TO TAURUS SEASON. To celebrate I wanna give y’all this unedited selfie.. now normally I would fix my belly and smooth my skin but baby I wanted show u how I do it au natural — I am excited to be partnering with @dove and the #DoveSelfEsteemProject which is helping to reverse the negative effects of social media and changing the conversation about beauty standards. Let’s get real y’all.”
Two years later, Lizzo is being fat-shamed because of that picture. One of the first people to do so was Shields. While posting the same picture of Lizzo, Shields captioned his sarcastic tweet, “If you don’t think Lizzo is beautiful your fatphobic.” He further wrote, “You’re also racist if you don’t find her beautiful.” Paulo Costa, on the other hand, commented on the tweet saying, “Im fatphobic.”

Another user, @CasuallyGreg, posted Lizzo’s picture with an article from Women’s Health which stated that Lizzo’s picture is shared to change the conversation about beauty standards. The user captioned the post saying that his beauty standards remain unchanged.
UFC fighters Jake Shields and Paulo Costa fat-shaming Lizzo sparks huge controversy
Shields, who is never away from controversy because of things he says, has recently again tweeted something that would not go down well with the public. Shields tweeted, “We need to normalize fat shaming not body positivity.” This comes two days after he posted Lizzo’s picture and fat-shamed her.

Another famous pop star, Ariana Grande, has also been the victim of body-shaming recently. Due to recent changes in her body, she has faced tonnes of negative comments. Ariana had to take to TikTok to address the issues.
“I think we should be gentler and less comfortable commenting on people’s bodies no matter what your intention,” Ariana said in a three-minute video explaining to people that body shaming is not the way to go in this world.
Ariana’s comments go out to people like Shields and Costa. The singer went on to explain how these comments can affect people negatively.
