Counted among the top bodybuilders across the world, Chris Bumstead is the champion of four consecutive Mr. Olympia competitions. But the legend knows that with great success comes great responsibility, which is why he has always been transparent with his fans.
Whether it’s bodybuilding tips, meals, or mental health, Chris Bumstead never shies away from his emotions. Speaking of which, in a recent video, Cbum made an honest confession regarding his preparation for the upcoming 2023 Mr. Olympia competition.
As everyone knows, Bumstead won last year’s 2022 Mr. Olympia with a torn bicep, which was a huge challenge for him. And this year, during his preparation for the upcoming competition, he faced another set of challenges that have been quite hard on him.

He said, “Every year brings new challenges. This year certainly hasn’t been short of them. I toss and turn at night stuck in my thoughts staring at the ceiling and asking myself, ‘Why am I doing this? Is any of this even worth it?’ It feels like every time I get into a good groove, everything falls apart”.
Cbum discussed that when he started bodybuilding, he didn’t care about anything. But as he gained success, things became stressful for him. People expect him to do the impossible, as he sets the bar so high every time. However, sometimes these things became quite overwhelming for him.
Chris Bumstead on life after bodybuilding
During an interview, the 28-year-old legendary bodybuilder revealed the agreements he made for himself, post-bodybuilding. Bumstead acknowledges the fact that bodybuilding is a part of his life, not his whole life. He said, “I know that it’s not worth it to me, you know there’s a life after bodybuilding for sure, who I am is not a bodybuilder, there’s more to me than I’ll be happy without it”.
The 4X Mr. Olympia winner sure is grateful for everything that bodybuilding has given him: fame, reputation, achievements, and lifestyle. But he still believes that there are things that are to be lived for, and he ought to do them.
His severe health conditions play an important role in his having such a cautious mindset. Cbum confessed, “It’s already been a great time but if I’m going to sacrifice my future life, hopefully with a family and my children of my own I’m going to be sick or unable to enjoy with them..that’s the biggest thing I would regret“.
As the bodybuilder says, he wouldn’t sacrifice having a happy, loving family of his own for running after great success. So, if things don’t work out that well, in the future, he might call it quits.
During the Truth Podcast, the 38-year-old bodybuilder discussed his career in bodybuilding with the former pro and his current trainer, Hany Rambod. Bumstead revealed that he is ready to give his career a big push, but if it doesn’t work out well, he would better be done with it. He shared that his goal is to retire while being at the top of bodybuilding, and based on his records, he is on top, for sure.
