Amanda Nunes previously acquired the bantamweight title. After which she decided to retire following her significant win against Irene Aldana at UFC 289. The title remains vacant after her retirement.
But according to Rousey, she won’t be entering the completion anytime soon, unless it’s for Gina Carano. She expressed this in an episode of The Kurt Angle Show.
“There’s only one person … there’s only one person I would come back for. I mean, I’ve said it a million times. It’s not like it’s something new. For Gina, man—Gina Carano.”
“I will fight Gina wherever she wants and if she doesn’t want to forever, I’ll leave that offer there. It’s a respect thing, not a fu*k you I’m coming to get you… I love her… Thank you Gina for everything you’ve done.”
As expressed by Rousey, the reason for her retiring from MMA was her mental health suffering due to her loss. After opening up about this, she retired after about a year.
Jon Anik doesn’t want Ronda Rousey to get an ‘immediate shot’
Jon Anik expressed his views regarding Rousey and the vacant tile. He believes that she would ‘give it her all’ if given the opportunity. However, the play-by-play commentator has his reservations about her getting there directly.
Jon Anik didn’t hold back from his speculative views about Rusey getting to compete for the title directly. As, according to him, it would be unfair to all of the other competitors.
“If anyone is worthy of that type of opportunity, it’s probably Ronda. I do believe that she would be competitive because she wouldn’t enter that setting without the guarantee that she would be competitive. It would be hypocritical for me to say, ‘Absolutely, let’s elevate Rousey and have her return!'”
Anik even mentioned he didn’t particularly like how Henry Cejudo did the same by cutting in between the line of Bantamweight title competitors.
