UFC 300 is rapidly approaching and the fan excitement is understandably at an all-time high. Whilst the card is stacked right from the first prelim, a lot of eyes are on the main event of the night. As such, Jamahal Hill is leaving no stone unturned with his preparation for Alex Pereira.
Previously, it was revealed that ‘Sweet Dreams’ would be taking on Alex Pereira in the main event of UFC 300. Although the fight was initially slated for UFC 301 in Brazil, the lack of an alternative, forced Dana White and co. to put it on 300 instead. Whilst it was far from the otherworldly main event initially, promised, fans were still keen to watch Pereira fight.

As such, despite initial disappointment, fans were soon on board with the fight, considering what the rest of the event had in store. With that said, UFC 300 is set to break numerous records, having 12 current and former champions, and a horde of amazing fights.
Jamahal Hill seeks out Israel Adesanya’s advice ahead of UFC 300
With that said, eyes turned to the main event where Jamahal Hill looks to reclaim his title, this time from the disciple of the man he once beat to win it. A matchup touted more than a year ago when Alex Pereira and Hill traded glances after the latter’s win over Glover Teixeira. Since then, a fight between the two was proposed, yet seen as an unrealistic possibility.
Since then, Hill would go on to vacate the title due to injury, opening the path for ‘Poatan’ to claim it instead, after beating Jiri Prochazka at UFC 295 late last year. Thus, with Hill returning from injury, the matchup was bound to happen. Despite it being moved earlier, Jamahal believes he has all the tools he needs to win the fight. At the same time, he is open to taking notes from other great fighters as well.

Recently, Hill took to social media to show that he had been in touch with Israel Adesanya ahead of the fight. “Picking one of the greatest minds in the history of the sport!” – the fighter wrote with a screenshot of his video call with Adesanya. To date, ‘The Last Stylebender’ has been the only man to vanquish Pereira inside the UFC Octagon.
Jamahal Hill believes that his fight against Alex Pereira is a ‘mismatch’
Coming into the fight, there has been no shortage of confidence from Jamahal Hill. Taking a similar route to Ilia Topuria, Hill is more than sure of his victory over the Brazilian champion. However, at the same time, Hill’s self-belief has not gone down too well with fans, who have called for him to be more humble.
In his response, Jamahal Hill pointed out fans’ hypocrisy for supporting Alex Pereira when he revealed his intentions to fight at UFC 300 and then at UFC 301 against Magomed Ankalaev. Purely stating that he wished to attempt such a feat garnered Alex a lot of praise. On the other hand, fans ridiculed the former champ for saying he could beat Pereira.
Speaking in a recent interview, Hill revealed why he was so confident to beat Pereira:
“It’s truly, truly a mismatch, you know?” he said. “Can he catch me and knock me out? He’s been fighting for a long time. He has strikes. He has power. Yes. It’s a possibility to get caught and lose. But short of that, short of something getting through and catching me and just putting me away, he gets his ass whooped every single way. Every single way. He has one way to win this fight. One way. Yeah.”
“He’s not gonna — anybody who thinks he’s gonna outclass me is out of their minds. He has one way to win this fight.”
All things considered, both Jamahal Hill and Pereira have their own avenues to win. At the same time, none of them can afford to underestimate the other, despite deeming themselves superior at a particular skill. Considering what is on the line, the fight will be a fitting way to round out a truly epic card.
