In early September, Joe Burrow signed a contract extension worth $275 million with the Bengals. It’s a 5-year contract which reportedly includes a guaranteed amount of $219.01 million. According to ESPN, it includes a signing bonus of $40 million and will keep Burrow with the team till 2030. As per this deal, the star player will earn an average yearly salary of $55 million.

It’s worth noting that this contract and salary make Joe Burrow the highest-paid player in NFL history. The quarterback’s rookie contract was worth $36,190,137 for 4 years. It included a signing bonus of $23,880,100 and an average yearly salary of $9 million. However, the average salary he’ll be getting now will be more than 4 times his previous salary.
Earlier, Josh Allen was among the highest-paid NFL players after Kansas City Chiefs star Patrick Mahomes. However, now Burrow has surpassed both of them in terms of earnings. Allen signed a 6-year contract extension with the Buffalo Bills in August 2021. It was a $258 million contract with $100 million guaranteed and $150 million guaranteed for injuries. As per this deal, Allen has been getting an average yearly salary of $43 million.
This means that Joe Burrow is getting an average salary that is $12 million more than that of Allen. Considering the talent he possesses, it’s quite reasonable for him to be the highest-paid NFL player.
Joe Burrow wants to play for the Cincinnati Bengals forever
Joe Burrow made his NFL debut in 2020 with the Cincinnati Bengals. The team drafted him as their 1st pick in the 1st round of the NFL draft. It’s quite obvious that the team had full faith in the quarterback since the beginning. The main reason behind that was Burrow’s amazing college record. The star player has won all of the prestigious awards including the Heisman Trophy and the Lombardi award.
After the contract extension, Joe Burrow mentioned in an interview that he wants to stay with the Bengals forever. The Pro Bowl has been with the team for 3 seasons already. It’s obvious that he has got connected with the franchise and his teammates. Burrow made a similar statement last year as well during an interview.
“My plan is to be here my whole career… Hopefully, Zac [Taylor] is here my whole career, and hopefully, a lot of our guys are around for as long as my career as they can be,” he said.
This season, Burrow started the team’s season opener against the Cleveland Browns after recovering from a calf injury. The Bengals and Joe Burrow must not be happy with their performances till now though. In 2 matches, the quarterback has recorded just 2 TDs and 1 interception for 304 yards.
