Jon Jones creates history in the UFC 285 main event. He is now officially the UFC heavyweight champion in the world! There was a gap of more than 3 years between his last fight at UFC 247 and the bout at UFC 285.
However, Jones made a seamless transition to heavyweight and is now the king of the most coveted division in combat sports. Although he forgot to mention Henry Cejudo in his post-fight interview, one person who had a special place in his post-fight speech, was his fiance Jessie Moses. Moses was right by Jones throughout the fight week and was present inside the Octagon as well.

Jonny Bones addressed the critics who doubted his intentions of fighting. Due to his long absence, many questioned if he even wanted to fight in the heavyweight division or not. However, he has shut them all down by winning the UFC heavyweight title. Jon Jones then finally addressed Jessie Moses and thanked her for her support through thick and thin.
He said, “I wanna thank my family. I wanna thank my beautiful fiance Jessie for being my biggest support. I love you so much. My biggest supporter.” However, Jon did not stop there. He also shared that it was the 10th birthday of his youngest daughter Olivia. Ahead of the fight, Jones shared that Olivia was almost attacked by a wild bobcat. So now, it looks like all is well in the Jon Jones household.
However, that was not always the case. The last time Jon was in Las Vegas, he was taken into custody for an alleged domestic violence incident in 2021. Although the arrest had harrowing circumstances around it, Jon refused the reports and said, there was nothing violent between him and his wife. Jones eventually accepted a plea deal and the case was dropped.
Jon Jones submits Ciryl Gane at UFC 285 to win the heavyweight title
Jon Jones made his fans wait for 3 years to see him in action, however, the wait was worth it! It is very evident from the fight that Jones spent the right amount of time behind his bulking-up process. While some even joked that Jon just became “fat” to make the heavyweight limit, the result of the bout begs to disagree. The 35-year-old submitted Gane at the 2:04 minute mark of the first round.

As per UFC stats, Jones landed 5 significant strikes and 8 strikes in total. Gane, on the other hand, landed a total of 9 strikes and 6 of them were significant ones. But that was just a small price to pay for Jon’s ultimate goal, which was to take the fight to the ground. Before the fight, Jones called Gane an incomplete fighter. He proved that by rag-dolling Gane and submitting him without even breaking a sweat.

With the win, Jon’s record stands at 27-1-0. Not just that, but Jon now has won both the UFC light heavyweight and the heavyweight titles in his UFC run. Although he does not hold the belts simultaneously, it does not bother Joe Rogan, who has called Jones the undisputed “greatest of all time.”
