Keith Peterson once again is in the firing line after his stoppage of Maycee Barber vs Amanda Ribas at UFC Jacksonville.
As the fans said time and again, the future is bright, and it is certainly the case if the person is Maycee Barber! Once, Maycee had the aspirations to become the youngest UFC champion of all time. While that is not a realistic dream any longer, Barber has certainly rejuvenated her career and is certainly on her way to becoming a UFC champion. She just took a massive toward it against Maycee Barber at UFC Jacksonville.
In the co-main event of the UFC card, Maycee Barber and Amanda Ribas faced off in a flyweight fight. While Barber was coming off 4 back-to-back wins, Ribas had 2 wins and 2 losses in her last four bouts. There was certainly a difference of momentum between the two as Maycee Barber was obviously the sharper fighter and she busted open her Brazilian opponent very early on.

While Ribas was certainly the better grappler, Barber was just too strong for her and pummeled her face. There were several moments when the fight could have been stopped. But, it was ultimately stopped at the 3:42 minute mark of the second round. While Barber has an improved MMA record of 13-2 now, RIbas adds another loss to her record column with a record of 12-4. But, more than Barber’s performance, the story of the fight has become the referee, Keith Peterson.
Keith Peterson faces backlash for his stoppage of Maycee Barber vs Amanda Ribas
Keith Peterson has one of the best nicknames in MMA, “No Nonsense.” However, he has been a controversial figure as well. Former bantamweight champ Dominick Cruz accused Peterson of smelling like alcohol and booze. Even recently, at UFC Vegas 75, he stopped the bout between Dan Argueta and Ronnie Lawrence. Keith Peterson stopped the bout thinking Ronnie Lawrence had tapped.

But, as it turned out, Lawrence did not tap. So Peterson has been under a lot of pressure recently. However, this time around, Peterson is being criticized for his late stoppage of Barber vs Ribas. During the last few seconds of the bout, as Maycee Barber was landing vicious ground and pound, it was evident that Ribas was not going to recover. But Peterson seemed hesitant to stop the bout and it allowed Maycee to land many more unanswered shots.
Here are some reactions on the matter
