After winning the Super Bowl LVIII on Sunday evening, February 11, 2024, it was time for a celebration in Kansas City. The fans and the players were rallying in the city, dancing, singing and enjoying the moment. However, the enjoyment soon turned into tragedy due to a heartbreaking incident.
The Chiefs won their fourth Super Bowl title in the best possible way. Despite trailing the game after the end of the second quarter, they made a comeback in the third quarter and won in overtime. The city was ready to welcome their warriors, and they decorated themselves for the rally.
The city and its people never dreamed that their joy would last no longer and that they had to become victims of a shootout. After the end of the rally, suddenly, a few armed men started shooting at the people present there. The shootout occurred just outside the Union Station when the fans returned after the parade’s end.
How many are affected by the shootout
As per the recent update, during the shoot, one person died, and 22 people got hurt. Among the list of 21 people, nine children are also present. The children who were the victims of the shootout in the trophy celebration on February 14, 2024, are now receiving treatment at the Children’s Mercy Hospital in the city.
A total of 11 children, including the nine, became victims of the tragic incident. Reports also claimed children are between 6 to 15 years old. Meanwhile, the other victims are receiving treatment in three various hospitals in Kansas. The local police caught three people linked with the shootout. Of the three, one was caught by the cops soon after the incident after a short chase.
The investigation is still ongoing, and there is no official statement released by the cops about the reason behind the shooting. The individual who was found dead in the incident is still unrecognized, but a local radio station named KKFI said the victim’s name was Lisa Lopez, and she is a part of the radio station’s DJs.

All the Chiefs stars were present in the rally, and after knowing about the incident, they showed their condolence to the victims and their families. Besides the Chiefs stars and other NFL players showed their support and condolence.
Chiefs icon Patrick Mahomes via X said, “praying for Kansas City” with folded hands emoji indicating prayer to the lord. Brittany Mahomes also wrote, “Shooting people is never the answer.” Meanwhile, Swift’s better half, Travis Kelce, wrote in X, “I am heartbroken over today’s tragedy that took place today. My heart is with all who came out to celebrate with us and have been affected. KC, you mean the world to me.”
Mecole Hardman, San Francisco 49ers star, wrote “Prayer Kansas City.” The former American quarterback Robert Griffin III noted, “Kids can’t go to school. Believers can’t go to church. Families can’t go to the grocery store. Friends can’t go to a concert. And now fans can’t go to a SUPER BOWL PARADE without the real fear of being a part of a mass shooting in America. WHAT ARE WE DOING?”
Another Chiefs star, Donovan Smith, wrote on X, “Praying for everyone today in Kansas City.” Besides all these stars, Drue Tranquill, Justin Reid, and other celebrities of the nation, such as Steven Van Zandt and Flavor Flav, also showed their aid and condolence.
