SUMMARY
- Former NBA star Kevin Garnett opined that the Lakers cannot win an NBA title this season.
- Charles Barkley has also stated that LeBron James and the Lakers are not a good team.
Several former NBA players have criticized LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers for their performance so far this season. Some have even gone far enough to claim that any hope of winning an NBA championship could be considered delusional and should not be entertained.
As veteran NBA fans might be aware, Kevin Garnett is a former NBA star best known for his time with the Boston Celtics and Minnesota Timberwolves. Although he is no longer an active player, Garnett continues to comment on present-day league activities and has made his feelings clear.
Kevin Garnett recently drew quite a lot of attention to himself by calling out and questioning the Lakers’ title hopes. Moreover, he is not the only former NBA star to be questioning the Lakers’ ability to win an NBA championship.Charles Barkley shares Kevin Garnett’s opinion and criticized the Lakers
Although it is quite easy to sit back and criticize the current generation of players and management, respected players such as Kevin Garnett generate quite a lot of publicity or scrutiny for their statements regarding modern-day players and teams.
Nonetheless, KG did not hesitate to point out that LeBron James’ Lakers should have been more active at the NBA trade deadline and made some significant moves in order to improve their roster and chances of winning an NBA championship.
“I don’t think that the contention for a chip is real. I think that’s delusional. I think anybody sitting here and looking at the Laker team thinking they can contend in the West for a title is delusional. They should have made some moves to better that team.”

He is not the only one who feels this way. Charles Barkley is another former NBA player and is also a part of the media. Charles tore up the Lakers after a loss to the Phoenix Suns a few weeks ago and even went far enough to claim that the Suns beating the Lakers was nothing to feel proud of since they ‘stink.’
While LeBron and the Lakers will certainly use criticism of this nature as fuel and motivation to play at a higher level, fans are beginning to wonder if there is any truth to the narrative being pushed forward by Kevin Garnett and Charles Barkley. How far can LeBron James and the Lakers go this season?
The Lakers started this season after coming off a trip to the Western Conference Finals and even managed to defeat the Indiana Pacers to win the first-ever In-Season tournament. However, the team has struggled to live up to expectations over the past few months and is clearly not playing at an elite level.
At the moment. the Lakers hold a record of 28 wins and 26 losses, giving them the 9th spot in the Western Conference. That means the team would have to go through two elimination games in order to merely secure a spot in the postseason.Although it would be unwise to bet against LeBron James and Anthony Davis in a 7 game series, their team is simply not expected to make the Conference Finals once again this season, let alone win an NBA title. If they continue to play at their current level, making it past the first round of the playoffs would undoubtedly be exceeding expectations.
