The journey to the top is a grueling one for any amateur fighter. However, some may say that it is equally rewarding when you make it to the top and get recognized for it. Turns out, the same can now be said for UFC newcomer Anshul Jubli as well.
Following the conclusion of UFC 294, renowned MMA trainer Firas Zahabi did a post-fight live stream. Among the questions he was asked by fans, was how he felt about Anshul Jubli’s performance. Although the name did not click with him immediately, Zahabi soon understood who the fans were referring to. As such, the Canadian gave a glowing review of the fighter from New Delhi.
Speaking on the live stream, Firas Zahabi said, “He (Anshul) was doing good, he’s a good striker and he got caught in the end. He has very good potential man, I really hope he comes to train with me eventually”. Further, Zahabi adds, “Lot of work to be done, of course, but I thought he was looking good, has a very nice striking, and he’s quick. Of course, he’s rough around the edges, we need to work with him and put the coaches with him”.
For those unaware, Firas is a highly sought-after coach in the MMA world. Having worked with the likes of Georges St-Pierre, the BJJ black belt is considered one of the best in the game. Thus, for him to take notice of Jubli and invite him to train means that he sees something special in the Indian fighter.
Anshul Jubli was inspired to take up MMA after watching Firas Zahabi
For the most part, it has not been an easy journey to the UFC for Jubli. Having maintained an unbeaten record fighting in his native promotions, Anshul got the call for the Road to UFC tournament. Here, ‘The King of Lions’ excelled, securing a split decision victory over KyeungPyo Kim.
Following that, Anshul was set to fight Jeka Saragih in the Road to UFC’s lightweight tournament finals. Taking place at UFC Vegas 68, Jubli’s debut fight in the UFC garnered the attention of many fans worldwide. On the night, the 28-year-old did his supporters proud securing a TKO finish over Saragih in the second round. Understandably, it was a euphoric moment for Jubli, who proudly announced India’s arrival to the UFC.

Soon after, Anshul revealed more about his journey in MMA and how he began training and fighting. Interestingly, Jubli would watch videos of Firas Zahabi and John Danaher with a friend and try to emulate their movements. Thereafter, Jubli decided to take things even more seriously and began his training at SOMA Fight Club and Crosstrain Fight Club in India. Like any good student, Jubli is very thankful and honored to have trained with his coaches.
Despite his loss to Mike Breeden at UFC 294, Anshul is not the least bit bothered. For the most part, he believes that he will eventually make it to the top and make a name for himself. As such, should Anshul take up Firas Zahabi on his offer, it could prove to be game-changing for him. Will Jubli train with his idol and elevate his game to the next level? Only time will tell.
