The rivalry between John Cena and CM Punk is among the most famous feuds in the last decade of WWE, as they gave pro wrestling fans numerous unforgettable matches. From Money in the Bank to The Night of Champions, the two superstars had amazing in-ring skills.
However, their rivalry was quite intense, as it also affected their off-screen relationships. As revealed by a former WWE writer, The Best in the World hated The Cenation Leader.
Former WWE writer Freddie Prinze Jr. revealed on his podcast, ‘Wrestling With Freddie’ that Triple H once told him the actual reason behind the real-life issue. Hunter told the former writer that CM Punk wanted to be a top guy in the company, however, that wasn’t possible with Vince McMahon in power.
“I remember one time Hunter saying, ‘As different as they are, the reason he hates John so much is that he knows if he was in that same spot, he would act the exact same way.”
Prinze didn’t believe him at that time, however, after almost a decade, he realized Hunter was right.“This is over a decade ago, and to hear the rumblings of AEW basically saying he’s acting the way John Cena did back then is just like, I mean, damn near everything I disagreed with Hunter on, he was right. He just knows, man,” he said.
CM Punk has buried his rivalry with John Cena after leaving WWE
CM Punk and John Cena had a decade-defining rivalry but it’s been reported that the two are on good terms now. They had a lot of differences when they started working together in the company, however, with time, they got on equal grounds.
The feud between The Best in the World and The Cenation Leader was beneficial for the superstars, as they reached a high peak of popularity while working together. Thus, it’s fair to say that the two didn’t hate each other after Punk left WWE.
The Voice of the Voiceless is currently signed by Tony Khan’s All Elite Wrestling. He was earlier suspended by the CEO following a physical altercation that took place last year at AEW All Out. Nevertheless, Punk is expected to make his in-ring return soon for the Florida-based promotion.
