UFC fighters are often compared with superheroes and rightfully so! On a weekly basis, they put on performances and show endurance which is superheroic indeed. Previously, UFC middleweight and welterweight fighter, Kevin Holland earned praise for helping the authorities fight crime. Fans compared him with the DC comics hero Batman. But, it looks like Joe Rogan has something in mind for Valentina Shevchenko too!
Marvel movies are dominating the box office around the world! Their latest offering Black Panther: Wakanda Forever did extremely well at the box office. The film grossed over $820 million worldwide! Even UFC superstar and former welterweight champ Kamaru Usman had a brief cameo in the movie.
During episode 1468 of “The Joe Rogan Experience,” Rogan drew parallels between the famous Marvel character Black Widow and Valentina Shevchenko. Acclaimed Hollywood megastar Scarlett Johansson plays the character and she has done a spectacular job. However, the character does not possess any superpower, except brilliant martial arts skills. It led to Rogan comparing the character with Valentina Shevchenko.
He added, “But she just kicks a**, she’s just like a UFC girl. It’s like Valentina Shevchenko hanging out with Iron Man. Right? That’s what it’s like. Valentina Shevchenko’s the UFC strawweight champion and that’s what it’s like.” But, Rogan later corrected himself and added that “The Bullet” was the women’s flyweight champ and not strawweight.
UFC commentator Joe Rogan shares his thoughts on Marvel movies
Since its inception in 2008, Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) has been a machine for churning out one hit after another. Although Rogan is well-versed in Marvel characters, one character that Rogan seems to have enjoyed more than others is Iron Man. He even had Robert Downey Jr, the actor who played the role, on his podcast. Following the 4th Avengers movie, RDJ stated his decision to step away from the role.
However, Rogan does not approve of it! He wants RDJ to keep playing the role and pitched an idea of his own!
“Here’s what I think, they go through a few semi-lackluster Avengers movies without you… There’s a moment where the world’s fate is at stake and they’ve realized they need a super genius. Then, they figure out how to restart that time machine. You step out of that machine and the entire crowd goes wild,” added Rogan. (h/t via HYPERBEAST)
In recent times, there have been some lackluster movies from the studio. Even there are doubts that Scarlett Johansson may stop playing Black Widow. So Rogan’s idea of Valentina Shevchenko potentially replacing Scarlett may not be a bad one after all! It will freshen up the character. Also, seeing the UFC star on the big screen in such a huge role will be a pleasure for MMA fans for sure!
When is Valentina Shevchenko fighting next?
UFC flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko is one of the most skilled fighters in the UFC. From her sharp striking to her excellent ground game, she is no less than a superhero. No other fighter in the promotion other than Amanda Nunes has caused problems for her in the Octagon. She also holds one of the longest win streaks in the promotion at the moment with 9 consecutive wins!
Her last bout was against Taila Santos at UFC 275. However, Valentina looked human in that particular fight. Santos made it tough for her to do damage in striking, with her magnificent ground game. Although it was a split decision, Shevchenko got the win. However, there is no word on when she will fight next.
There are contenders like Manon Fiorot, Katlyn Chookagian, and Alexa Grasso in the division. However, the biggest fight that the UFC can make at the moment is the trilogy between her and Amanda Nunes. Nunes has beaten her twice before this. But, that does not take away from the fact that there is a huge demand for the bout and it will be an exciting fight to witness.
